lagrith compressing to 17,000 MB

Postby batmanMG » Thu Feb 22, 2007 4:55 am

really im writing this pre-emptively... its 17,000 MB in the projected file size... but i can't waste my time on something that is WAY too big and will have to be deleted... wait isn't that 170 GB??!?!?!?!?!??!?! heh hehehe hehe that won't fit on my HD if it was empty... or am i not carrying a zero right? am i needlessly freaking out here or did i do something horribly wrong again... and am now compressing WAY larger than i should be.

What's your video's resolution and length (in time)? And what colorspace are you using in the Lagarith settings (RGB32, YUY2, YV12)?

17GB for 6 entire losless episodes is damn good.

If you're concerned about space you should be clipping the episodes into segments you plan to use, not converting everything.

Eh, yea... if you're using an editor that can use .vob files or avisynth scripts for source, it's far more efficient to go with those; otherwise you really should clip it down to what you're actually planning to use. I tend to work with lossless clips myself, but always in very limited amounts - in fact it helps you straighten out your scene choices before you even start editing if you already pre-clip the scenes.

Let's face it, you aren't gonna need all 2-something hours of FLCL footage for an AMV (I think the average AMV is about 3.5 minutes), are you?

no... but im not making 1 amv... im remastering one that uses alot (all scenes with canti in them) of the first three eps and then making a sequil to it using the last three eps... and im making a comedy/fun video i haven't quite worked out yet... so i figured i'd get the whole shibang for so i don't have to keep reclipping it over and over...

that and im a work on the fly kinduf guy... i have a general plan, and many scenes thought out but alot of the details come to me as i go... and much of my best ideas comes from things i hadn't thought of before...

also premiere elements (the dumbed down version for premiere) doesn't work with vobs OR avs files so i have to use avi files and the like... (actualy i haven't tried anything else with it yet)

and actualy you'd be surprised at how much actualy fits into those 3 and half minute videos... my vid to Beyond the Clouds used about an hour of scenes (most cut down to a few seconds or less)...

You're preaching to the choir here - as I said I'm rather familiar with the method and have used it myself many times. Fair enough, if you can afford the space and are willing to spend the time transcoding. I think you can be more efficient if you organize and pre-select scenes, that's all.

i agree... fully... just wouldn't be too practical with all the projects im going to be using it for is all... and yes i realized that 17 G for all of flcl is great... i thought it was 170 g before thoug... the digits and the time to complete confused the hell out of me... i had forgotten to put a # infront of mftoon and it slows everything down to a constipated dump...

ty for all your responses though... glad to see help is always there when you need it...
