APP 7.0 importing problems

Postby NicholasGolden » Mon Feb 19, 2007 6:17 pm

Hi everyone,

Sorry to bring you yet another APP thread, but I can't figure this one out on my own.

I'm obviously a noob, so I started by reading AbsoluteDestiny & ErMaC's Technical Guides to All Things Audio and Video mk2. In there they have a nice AMVapp pack to download, so I did that. I also went and downloaded the newest version of VirtualDubMod since I don't think the pack installed it.

I opened VirtualDubMod, imported an .AVI file and cropped the section of video I wanted. I then selected Huffyuv as my compression and saved the file.

My problem comes when trying to import into Adobe Premiere Pro v. 7.0. I select import and the file I created in VDM. A progress box pops up saying "Importing Files", but nothing happens. I've tried this process with a non .AVI file and it's worked just fine. I tried going back to VDM and compressing with lagarith lossless, but that didn't work either.

I've tried reading posts and guides to solve the problem, but I haven't found anyone getting stuck where I am.

Any thoughts?

Do you have the plugins in the proper place?

Everything I installed was installed to whatever the default location was...so I would assume the plugins are all in their proper places.

7.0 you say? --- lol well wont drag that subject up.

anyway.. are you cropping the footage through VDM's crop filter or are you doing it through AVI synth?

This may not have anything to do with it.. but just using the filter has given me oddball results.

Have you tried not cropping beforehand?

By "cropping" do you mean resizing the clip? Because all I've done is select which part of the episode I want, so I can keep the clip sizes down, rather than converting the whole episode. I haven't done any subtitle removal or anything yet...I just wanted to get a clip into APP so I could tinker.

And should I be afraid of 7.0?

Oh ok.. sorry I misunderstood your clip sectioning as cropping the video..
see if the clip you made plays in your media player (Windows, vlc or whatever) Getting the latest version of huffy or lagarith (I prefer Lagarith) may help. This comp has restricted access so I cant venture around a whole lot but I believe you can find those on www.doom9.org

you shouldnt really be afraid of it.. its just the name you used "7.0" It is actually Premiere Pro or Pro 1.0

Yes, the definition of cropping is cutting a set number of pixels off each edge of a video.

That is called clipping. What format are you saving your clipped segments to? That is, what codec are you compressing with?

Premiere pro 7.0 is what the people that pirated premiere pro 1.0 called it because they either didn't know or didn't care about the naming change that Adobe implemented. By calling it that instead of what's on the retail box you're basically admitting to using pirated software.

Yes, clipping, thank you. I'm a photo editor firstly, so cropping was the first term I could think of.

Anyway, my understanding is that .AVI is just a container, so the format I'm actually compressing the clips to is huffyuv. I've also tried the lagarith lossless format. Both of those files open and play in my windows media player, but won't import into Pro.

And as for the 7.0, thanks for the heads up.

I've got the sme problem...
My AP Pro won't import full episodes, for example, but it imports little .avi filles.
I'd like to know how to fix that. I really had to import full episodes for my amv. x_x'

NicholasGolden: I honestly don't know what to say - that is rather odd. Basic diagnostic would be to go over anything you recently installed that could be causing conflicts (2 codecs trying to decode the same file, various apps, hell, even quicktime screws things up for me sometimes).

Kaimi-chan: You're screwed either way, but just for reference: If you're episodes aren't encoded losslessly you're going to have problems (Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides or click any of the bright flashing banners that are EVERYWHERE to see why), if they are, you probably don't have enough RAM to properly handle sticking 5-10GB(per episode) worth of footage on your time line at once. I'm going to bet it's the former, and not the later...

Ok, scratch that. I just unistlled DivX and I'm downloading VirtualModDub, AMVapp...

I think I should be fine... or I should go to 'Compression, Encoding, and Converting' forum...

I'm still having this problem. Thought I'd update and see if anyone else had ideas.

I uninstalled all the codecs I had installed (at least I think I got them all). I uninstalled APP. I reinstalled select codecs, huffyuv, all the xvid/avi stuff, and some other audio stuff I didn't quite follow. Then I reinstalled Adobe and tried once again to import an AVI clip. Nothing. Just sits there and says "importing".

MPEG clips still import fine.

Do you have ffdshow? If so, make sure its support for HuffYUV and Lagarith (and, really, any other codecs that you already have separately) is disabled.
