How to make the video screen in Vegas

Postby canikizu » Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:41 am

Normally, in Vegas, one clip is only displayed in a 800x600 screen or something like that.
If i use cookie cutter, it still only has the shape of circle, or rectangular, square,...
So i want to ask if there are some way to make it a screen like star, leaf, or heart ???

My purpose to ask is i want to make a video clip that have some stars with clips in it flying around, if you know what i mean.
If i can't do it with Vegas, please suggest another methods :)

it will be difficult, but use the masking tool, you can cut out any shape with it

you can find it under pan/crop at the bottom check the "masking" thing and use the pentool to create the shape you want

I thought of using crop/mask before, but i found that is difficult for me to use, because i'm not really skilled with mouse :?.
Do you have any trick to do masking easier ??

All this time I thought Vegas had star wipes. <disappointed>

This method will create an offbeat star shape:
1. Put two copies of the same clip on the timeline, one directly above the other.
2. Put the cookie cutter arrowhead-left shape on the top clip.
3. Put the cookie cutter arrowhead-upside-down shape on the bottom clip.
4. Play with the size and location settings to suit.

Other than this, you need a mask or matte: white star or heart or whatever shape on a black background. There are a few ways to get one of those, the easiest is finding one that's already made (like from an online clipart library). Or as JaddziaDax mentions, get picture editing software that has a set of image templates. You want the templates for a consistent look since you said you can't draw well with a mouse.

Another option is to find a text font that has a star symbol. Something like Wingdings or Webdings. Create that symbol in a very large point size. Save the frame as a white on black picture. Use it as a mask.

Anyone using Pixelan's SpiceMaster can get star and other shaped masks by extracting pics from the appropriate transition. Or just use one of the Matte presets.

You can find online clipart libraries with Google.com. I don't use them so I don't have any suggestions.

I only mentioned Pixelan for readers who are already using it. It costs $$$ and it's not exactly what you're looking for.

You might try loading one of the free image editors like Gimp or Paint.net. One of them might have a built in shape generator or a set of templates.
