Windows Movie Maker Help

Post by TheYoshMan » Sat Feb 03, 2007 1:15 pm

Firstly... I have read the FAQ, and my exact problem isn't in there. (Or I just suck and am too lame to understand most of it and thus need somebody to dumb it down for me to understand =O)

Basically, the WMM on my Laptop will not work. It simply crashes whenever I start it up, saying that it isn't responding and would like to know if I want to send an error report. But, I know the WMM on my PC works but for the life of me I cannot understand why my Older PC can use WMM (They're both the same version) and my New Laptop cannot.

So, can anybody help me solve my problem? Please and thanks ;P.

nope, your WMM is dead
you might want to try upgrading to WMM2 and see if that helps

you could try reformating your computer if you have your original windows XP installation disk.

Well, I'm pretty sure I've already got the latest one and I don't particularly want to reformat my computer.

I don't think it's the WMM itself that's screwed, as I installed a new one to no avail and I don't really want to use the PC to make AMVs all the time as it's my parent's computer and I've got my anime on this computer already.

So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Programs crashing on windows can have a million reasons. The most appropriate can be a trojan or virus that corrupted your exe's, but perhaps not. Or perhaps some installtion corrupted WMMs registry. So We can't really say why its not working. Try some other program...

And there can be many other reasons too like,

Bill gates was too lazy handle exceptions >_>.
Aliens have invaded your comp00per and now they want to take WMM with them.

Oh never mind...

uhh...in this case it's because the people who programmed WMM did an awful job at it.
I mean really, really bad...that and programming with windows has a few inherent problems

Did you try reinstalling the codec pack you have? Or even installing another one?
My WMM2 was crashing all the time I was editing in it, and that thing helped. I even reinstalled WMM itself.

Well- thanks for helping me guys, but my WMM is still...screwed XP. I tried reinstalling Windows Movie Maker 2.1 onto my comp like 12 times but there was the same problem, which led to me believing that it's not really a problem with the WMM itself but more like my laptop? Any thoughts?

Oh- and if it helps, I burned a DVD and it didn't recognize it and it still can't work. (Don't ask how this matters, I just thought there might be a connection between these two problems, thanks =])

save all your files to disc if you can (flash drive, usb, DVDs whatever) and completely reformat your computer...

first thing after doing so install all the updates?
start fresh?

thats my best suggestion.
