How do you best clean up manga?

Yeah, I wasn't quite sure where to ask this either, but it is AMV related.

Long story short, I'm planning on an AMV that uses both an anime and manga of the same title. For the manga footage I'll dysect the panels in Photoshop and composite them in AE so I can pan, zoom, zip from panel to panel and in general give a great deal of depth and life to the still images.

But, Uhm, I'm wondering what the best way to process the manga pages is. That is, how do I get them looking all clean and black and white looking instead of black on news print looking? o.o
