WMM: HELP!!! - Codec problem

For help and discussion concerning the Windows Movie Maker software.

Postby pinky75910 » Sat Jan 27, 2007 11:24 pm

Think I have successfully downloaded Virtualdub. Attempted to open an AVI file - Error Message:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High-Speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack:Divx Low Motion]). Virtualdub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct Stream copy' is available for this video.

I press okay.

I attempt to press the playback button.

Error message:

VideoSourceAVI: uncompressed frame 0 is short (expected 225600, got 1078)

Now what do I do plz? ;_;
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

do you have divx?
if not (or you're not sure) google it
look for binaries or executables, avoid source code (it won't do you much good)

Yes I have the latest Divx dl ::bangs head against wall::

After that, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I hate googling for progs and stuff, because its easy to get viruses that way.

ok..... now you have DivX and you got error from Vdub so I guess you don't have FFDshow, am I right?

If you don't have the FFDshow get it here! and try to open it.

If not working get this CCCP then tell me if you still get an error in Vdub, okei ;)

CCCP includes ffdshow

...looking at fourcc.org, this is the page it gives you.

you really shouldn't get divx fansubs...

"_" I think........ I should more specific if I'm giving that.... as I say if one of those didn't work she can get rid of CCCP and use FFDShow but if she's using the VdubMod she need CCCP then if you want to play your converted clips in WMM either one should be removed the CCCP or the FFdshow bcuz your WMM get flaky or cranky if you use huffyuv.

Like mine @_@ I got so much work on my 1st AMV as you seen o.O" though better for me to work hard of my AMV than nothing. In the other hand :D I'm learning too  how to deal those stuff.

Hope I say it clear ~.~ this time.

although I haven't read up on all the technical aspects of the subject, there is very little reason to think that ffdshow alone (not with CCCP) would fix problems with CCCP.

if haali media splitter is set to split avi files, it can give you wierd results.
since my WMM gave up the ghost a long time ago I can't test this myself.

it has been established that WMM has trouble with larger files (entire episodes encoded with huffyuv for example)

if ffdshow is giving you problems you can always check to see if it's trying to decode files that you already have other codecs for (like divx and xvid and huffyuv).

the codec page that I pointed to should resolve the vdubmod issue.

That's I'm figuring out but I can't find it :( I think it's take time for me to figuring out unless I have to mess up in my laptop to deal that ffdshow and CCCP.

I have a Haali also but that the thing I dunno where it was set when I installed it in my L.P. :?

Kariudo wrote:it has been established that WMM has trouble with larger files (entire episodes encoded with huffyuv for example)

Yes.... I encounter this too in huffyuv but not the entire eps. some of those clips

so you mean as I can understand this.... I have to compress my clip is those codec (like huffyuv or XviD) in my vdubmod then try to import it in WMM to see if it's those clips is giving a error nor not? :?

sorry if I quoted your post just to make it sure I get it clear what you mean to me. :?

not at all.
what I meant is that ffdshow has a list of options.
some of these options can make ffdshow try to decode files, like divx for example.
if you also have the divx codec this can cause problems.

since ffdshow can be useful for other filetypes (like h.264) it would be nice to make ffdshow only decode the file types that you want it to. This can be done through ffdshow's video decoder configuration

Now I get it so you mean ffdshow can decode some filetypes right? ok! this....... I get it :)

and though I have a lot of decoder here is the list:

CCCP
FFDShow
3ivx
Mtrska Haali
x264
Lagarith
Avisynth
Huffyuv
DivX
Xvid
Ogg/dscaler

so some of this must be removed but in what program :? I use Vdub/MOD and WMM for my editing :? though I remove ffdshow and CCCP in my WMM the clips encoded in huffyuv and read this so as I understand one of my codec is working but when I put back again the ffdshow and try to open my source clip in vdubmod I'm getting again an error that say the same thing :? so I have to install again the CCCP and now it's start to work but my WMM can play the encoded huffyuv clips in the timelime even it's only 2 or 3 mins max. :? And I don't how to config the ffdshow.... so what do you think? did I add or I need to remove some of decoder I have?

byw.... my source files is MP4 and two of my file can not open the decoder I mention above (@_@ I know it's off the topic but just to let you know why I have those codec in my L.P.) :)

You're using a lotta words I don't know. Went to this FFShow thing you linked me, all it seems to have for download are MPEG decoders. It's AVIs that are giving me trouble.

can you do something for me Pinky?

right click on the avi file and choose "properties"

then choose the "summary" tab

and tell me what it says next to "Video Compression"
