My sad story.

Postby Yolko » Wed Dec 20, 2006 6:00 am

I'm not sure if this is the right forum and should I even write about this, but if you think this is totally stupid, you can just delete this topic. But anyway.

I love making and watching AMVs, especially if their about Mai HiME, my favourite anime. Mai HiME isn't so popular so here's not so many AMVs about it, if you compare it much popular animes [for example; DNAngel, Naruto etc.]. I've downloaded all those AMVs, but only half of them work. Somehow, AVI-files don't work with my Windows Movie Player or - Maker. I can only hear the music and thats not really nice. -_-'' I have no idea if it's my computer, my WMP or the videos which aren't working. I have the same problem with episodes, I've downloaded them too, but they're AVI's so they don't work. I can only do AMVs with WMM-files and it's really annoying. If you know any free programs which really work with AVI-files, please let my know. I'd be really happy.

I'm so jealous, I guess all of you can do AMVs with episodes. Maybe you can't help me, but try to be happy about your situation - it's better than mine.

Thank you really much. VLC player works, I can watch avi's now. :D But I still have the problem with Movie Maker.. -,- I have a program called 'Pinnacle Studio Plus v.9' and I think it's great, but it won't work with avi's either. The guide was about how to play videos in Windows, but what about making them? :? Right know all video material I can get is what other people choice to use in their videos. Maybe I'm asking too much and maybe you can get the answer from many topics or that guide, but still I'd like to know what I have to do to be able to use avi-files in AMV-making. Is there a video makin program, which will work? Or do I have to do something with those codecs..? Gah, I don't really understand all of those texts, because I'm bad at english. And my computer is in Finnish of course, so sometimes I'm not sure what to do when you have to do something with file information things when in my computer they are in finnish. Well, thanks a lot anyway, I really appreciate it.

I did overlook the part with AMV-making and Moviemaker somehow. I should clearify something first- AVI is an container, and all windows-based editing programs are fine with it. But they don't always like the contents, specificly the video- and/or audio compression. In your case probably it's DivX/XviD.

I'll point you to the guides section in generell. And EADFAG covers nearly all technical questions of AMV-making.

Be warned: Some people will go mad if if they find you ripping off their AMV's. Better get the DVD's to rip your footage.

And your quality will suffer so much that your viewers will set out to decapitate you in 30-second increments.

Yeah, I know, it really isn't good.. I try to download as many videos as possible and make them look like their from the episodes, but sometimes you can see it's from other AMV. That's why I don't put them here. It's really the only material I can get; they don't sell anime DVDs here in Finland [well, few maybe but almost nothing, definitely not my favourite series] and I can't order them from the net either. [Argh, don't ask why, but I really can't..] For me, AMV making can only be [and is] for fun. No one can see my AMVs, expect my family and friends but I really can't put them anywhere..

This is hard. >_< Maybe I'm destined to NOT to do AMVs. D:

Watch what you admit to here. Don't do shit like that. Under any circumstances.

If you need source, get it where at least half the people that have videos here do.

Ask the other members of Arctic Tribe where they got their sources? AFAIK, they're all in Finland...

This is the most ridiculous argument. What, you're a kid and don't have a credit card? Your parents are such shitty bastards that they won't buy something for you if you earn the money yourself? Come off it. Find a friend who can buy stuff online and pay them. If you don't have friends, well, you need to work on something more important than AMVs, don't you?

i think everyone is being a lil harsh on the poor dude..

He has no clue about the rules of this forum.. obviously he didnt read it along with 90 percent of everyone here..

Yoloko: dude although its TERRIBLE to use actual "anime music video" footage from other animators.. as long as you dont upload the vids here..

If your an anime fan.. witch im assuming you are.. then you have a great GREAT way to get footage in one of two forms.

A: video capture card off of the television
B: use raw (unsubbed) footage of anime that are not even on dvd yet. (im assuming you know how to download anime)

With these two methods no one can yell at ya for ripping stuff off.

But i will give you some advice.. if you really wanna make good amv's then get actual dvd's the quality is almost uncomparable.. and NEVER EVER use downloaded music EVER!!!

albums are cheap so no crying about that. hell you can even pay 99 cents for a down loadable single song off some music program.. just as long as you pay for it.
Close calls are always the most exciting. Coming close is always the most dissapointing.

I welcome any and all advice on how i can improve
