Re: Windows VISTA - Seriously Scary!
I'm just peeved that I won't be able to install "offsite backups" to VISTA anytime soon until some brilliant, bordering on insane, person comes up with some way of "crackling" the Microsoft bank.rubyeye wrote:... they talk about how and why Windows Vista has incorporated the most pervasive and invasive system for digital rights management ever created, AACS.
.
Am I clear enough on that one?

This topic is now about cardboard cutout characters!

I've been messing with betas since February 2006. Is it better than XP? Oh yeah! Is it an absolutely necessary upgrade? HELL NO!madbunny wrote:I thought this was supposed to be a bitching about Vista thread.
Actually, has anybody else been, or used it other than me?
I haven't even tried to mess with AVIsynth or Vegas in Vista yet. Although I did install ffdshow ok as far as I can recall. And remember, this is the "off topic" forum, not the "let's be an ass" forum .

I've used avisynth, and virtualdub. It seems to work alright. I've had problems with adobe premiere 6.0, but premiere pro works just fine.anubisx00 wrote:I've been messing with betas since February 2006. Is it better than XP? Oh yeah! I've also noticed that most games seem to do alright in vista as well.
I have to say, one of the things that I *DO* like about vista is the performance and tools check, where you get a numerical rating of your components to compare them to each other. Sort of a quick way of seeing if you have an obvious bottleneck in your system.
As for being a mandatory upgrade... not at all, especially considering the high prices involved.

The iso for version 5600 is 2.52gig.Fall_Child42 wrote:Ok, Question About Vista...
How large is default install projected to be?
I understood it to be insanely big.
I don't remember how much space it took on the HD initially. Insanely big, really isn't if you consider the size of a typical hard drive. Boot time hasn't been an issue. Actually, I'm not sure where all the extra weight comes from.
