Strolling on west towards the Smolny area, enjoying the architecture:

As some may or may not know, I'm notorious for a habit of 'aimless wandering', which I do for a couple of hours each day. It seems walking around streets without purpose isn't at all common here and people often wonder what's the point.

Well, having been raised in St. Petersburg... a habit. It's possible to walk the streets of St. Petersburg for days, alone and without any purpose, and it's probably the greatest thing about this city. This is exactly the part of my trip I enjoyed most.

Again, it might be hard to convey with just pictures, but this city has a sort of spirit. It's not just a random collection of buildings and a center of population. The city centre is a World Heritage site for a reason.
