For reference, the program linked to is SUPER video converter...which has been deemed to be not so super in this thread

avisynth + vdubmod can handle almost anything (assuming you have directshow codec(s) for the thing you want to convert)

has a few more things too...but you should be able to select what you want to install.
sooner or later (in your editing lifetime) you'll problably want all of the stuff in the amvapp
