Getting New CPU. Tell Me If These Computer Specs Are Good.

Postby eDiTiX » Mon Nov 13, 2006 2:44 pm

I'm getting a new computer, I'm mainly going to use it for video editing, rarely will it use it for much gaming as I definately don't have that much time on my hand as I use to have.

My current computer:
Intel Celeron Processor
2.5Ghz
1.5 GB DDR Ram PC2700?
40 GB HD

My Intended New Cpu (thinking about it):
Intel Core Duo2 E6600 2.4Hz, 1066FSB (Dual Core) 4096K cashe
ASUS P5N SLI nForce 570, SLI PCI Express, DDR2, Sound, LAN
1GB PC6400 DDR2 800
GeForce 7300GS 256Mb DDR PCI EXpress 16X dual head, tv out
250.0GB Samsung 7200rpm SATA2 UDMA 300 8m Cache

Would that system be okay? I'm planning to use vegas and I'm getting adobe premiere from a friend later. Of course I'm on a budget...it use to be $300, I guess now its $900. I'm getting the sytem personally built to that.

could you post links to those parts?
most times it's not enough to just say what you're getting (often times the brand can make a difference)

you can probably choose slightly different parts and bring that price down a bit.

depending on the age of your computer (and if it was pre-built) you may also need a power supply...and a case to put it all in. (and a dvd drive if you don't already have one)

you should also take into account the monitor that you have (CRT or LCD), if your monitor only has VGA input you may need an adapter

That's fine, but...

... none of the rest of this stuff goes into a CPU. :?

Make sure that the 1 GB RAM consists of 2x512 MB to enable dual channel mode.

What version of Premiere do you want to use? In case it is Pro 2.0, you should check this list for the graphic card.

The current link u gave me doesn't seem to work at the moment...I'll check back in a bit.

I rechecked my mobos and it seem to only support ddr2 667/533 meaning getting the 800 would be sort of pointless...thats why now i'm aiming for another board...uncertain of how it'll go but its definately better (more expensive as well)

really, please do this...there is no way that you should be paying that much for those parts (unless there are some parts that you didn't mention)

here we go (suggested list...for a build from scratch)
mobo
cpu (not the E6600, but the E6400 will definately suit your needs...plus you save ~$100)
memory (1GB [2x512] dual channel, this ram will work with the intel 965 chipset...as it can only support ddr2 800 at 1.8v)
video card (pretty much go with whatever is cheaper...to cut costs a bit more you could get a card with 128MB)
hard drive
power supply
dvd drive
and a nice case to put it all in
cost before shipping is $802 (shipping is about $40)

you may need to spend a bit more money on the video card (depending on what version of premiere you plan to use)

Actually...you both are late about it as Ive posted a thread before and someone told me, however, even before that I already know cpu stands for central processing unit, its just I had this habbit of calling a computer cpu... So  You're funny...

Well, I want to get an e6600, as I always want it to last for awhile and paying an extra $100 seems with it a bit in the long run. The mobo i posted far up there...I checked it out and it only runs ddr2 667 and 533, meaning even with 800, i wouldn't get the full potential out of it. Well thats what I got. Kurido...do you have aim or msn or yahoo messenger or something? U seem to know about it, maybe I can ask for ur advice on getting my cpu...on here is a bit slow.

the model number is no idication (I suppose it could be used a little bit...somehow...but not much) to determine how long it'l last
I have Windows live messenger (think that's what it's called) and AIM (I'll update my profile soon)
