Romeo x Juliet

Postby angelx03 » Thu Nov 09, 2006 6:19 pm

You guys SHOULD know the basic story of this!

Here's the official website:

http://www.romejuli.jp/top.html

This is going to be a Gonzo production with "shoujo master" Junichi Sato (Kaleido Star, Sailor Moon, Princess Tutu) directing it.

My god, the potential of over the top, fangirl-ish romance AMVs using this series is becoming REALLY apparent!

Not so much incomplete as just short. It's not a long story by any means.

But as shoujo? Hell yes!

This has the potential to be awesome, so I hope it succeeds.

Muh... buh... I... it's Gonzo... Oh, god, I'm probably going to love this, but don't think I'll like liking this!

Goddamn you Gonzo, I thought there you understood the rules! When you bring a classic to life, it's supposed to be shitty!

But you had to go ahead and mess all that up. You had to go ahead and do a classic well... what kind of example are you setting for Les Mis, here? Shame on you... making quality modern renditions...

lol

itsnotsomuch that it was short...the ending just didn't seem complete. i mean I loved the dramatic irony but I dunno it just didn't seem to end right. I would have done it differently, but then again everyone who has watched the twilight zone knows what happens when you rewrite shakespear.

Some staff updates are found here:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=7087

Well Junichi Sato is involved in the production but only as the sound director so my mistake!

Though interesting is that Hitoshi Sakimoto will be doing the music. Hardcore gamers should be familiar with this guy's work! Heck, he's the one who did the music for Final Fantasy Tactics and the newly released Final Fantasy XII. :P

Well, I'm not seeing any connections to the you-know-which Gonzo classic adaptation as far as staff yet, but I'll keep optimistic on its prospects regardless.

I'll say this. Most of the staff listed worked on Kaleido Star in one shape or another. Though I have a feeling it's won't be an all-out trip fest like what Mahiro Maeda did with Gankutsuou. Of course that's judging from the screencaps found here:

Agreed, Kaleido Star gets the highest grades on animation. As far as doing something that seems to be leaning to shoujo, that team is certainly the better choice.

But you can't blame me for being nostalgic for Gankutsuou :P And at least in this case, some comparisons might actually be far more relevant. I'm curious what they're doing visually though - from the screencaps and the fact it's the same team as KS, I get the sense they won't let this one get away without some out-there eye-candy that has nothing to do with the original and probably everything with how good this will actually end up.

Alright, I officially re-claim the Gankutsuou comparison. While the art direction is quite different, there is certainly still a lot of visual fancyness, reinterpretation and added-in action going on. Certainly far from the shoujo I might have expected. And of course, this will have over-dramatized angst by the loads.

Whether all of that means a really good thing or not quite, we'll find out. I'll remain open, as long as they can make all these fancied-up elements make sense (rather than random JULIET CAN FIGHT LOL type of deal)
