The AMV was downright breathtaking and the song choice sent shivers down my spine. It truly brings a lump to my throat and overwhelms my senses with its haunting sadness of tone.

I recommend it it anyways.

I liked the original by Hooverphonic better.

[Rascal Flatts- what hurts the most. im not a really big fan of country music, but i have heard this song a few times.

Utada Hikaru- my sanctuary japanese version. i cant remember where i downloaded the song, but my girl is also a big fan of it.

celine deion= my heart will go on. i never heard this song. but i know its sad.]

I assume you are talking about "Sarah Beth" by Rascal Flatts. It was sad at first but gets annoying after awhile. I'm glad the radio stopped it's lets play it every hour phase... but I digress

The saddest song of any genre that I have ever heard is Damien Rice - "Cold Water". That song makes me want to drive my car into a ditch but its really well written and uses alot of cool gregorian vocal harmonies in the background.

What about Johnny cash's cover of NIN's hurt?

Here it is The only thing I wish they changed was the religious imagery he added. But I guess that was because of his turning to god late in life.

"Alone Again (Naturally)" by Gilbert O'Sullivan is the most depressing song I've ever heard. It's from the Maison Ikkoku soundtrack.

Tom Waits-Tom Traubert's Blues
Tom Waits-The Day After Tomarrow
Tom waits- Woe
First because it's such a bittersweat song
the 2nd because its true to life about the horrible things that happened to soldiers and what its like to come home.

Woe is due to its very poetic and tragic nature. The basic story of the album Blood money is a guy slowly goes crazy after volinteering for medical experiments, ends up killing his adulterous wife, then drowns trying to hide the knife.

Well, my pick would be in Russian, so I'd hesitate to post it here, but what the hell.

It's honestly the saddest thing I've ever heard, and the song didn't make it onto the band's studio albums. It's a fairly mild piece musically, but lyrically it mixes sadness with some very harsh imagery.

All too relevant as it was written by the singer shortly after losing his wife at around age 30.

Translated from Russian wrote:DDT - Beda (Tragedy)

The starving winter
Has grown out wings
Grey dirt
From the moon to the cross
Drowned houses
Like awful nightmares
Like a hungry slut
After a fast

Rivers are flattened
By a rolling wind
From the branches crawls out
An empty green noise
The water squeaks out
The East celebrates
Smirking intently -
West-contrabandist

Tragedy has poured down
Like water over fire
Squeezed its ugly face against the window
Looking into the house

I'm losing my mind
Yes I'm losing my mind
I covered my windows with heavy sleep
With cold ice...

Cats have a meeting
Of all the cat castes
Snow in holes, like memory
And countless crows
Each mutt has a ticket
But the bitch won't have all
Everything melts:
Both love and revenge

But I'm not glad for this warmth,
I stopped liking the dawn
I sit here in the dark
Barely moving my hand
And I'm starting to think
That I'm no longer there
Because you aren't there,
You're no longer with me

Tragedy has poured down
Like water over fire
Squeezed its ugly face against the window
Looking into the house

I'm losing my mind
Yes I'm losing my mind
I covered my windows with heavy sleep
With cold ice

The earth is swearing,
It skin on the whales
Turning its beaten sides
Towards the warmth
The sun has kicked
The sky in the groin
Trees stick out,
Up to knees in nonsense

With a full breakdown
Of the world, spring
Is saluting to us,
That it turned out fine
Smelling new flavours,
The bastard-country
Everything's ready to live,
You alone weren't saved

Tragedy has poured down
Like water over fire
Squeezed its ugly face against the window
Looking into the house

I'm losing my mind
Yes I'm losing my mind
I covered my windows with heavy sleep
With cold ice

Pinetree - gallows
Rain - flood
Parting - tragedy
Is now at my door
Homing birds
Scream between my lines
I'm wiping the eyes
Off my own face

I don't need them,
Because you are no more
Memory drowns
In a puddle of shreds
I swallow the last
Flame of my cigarette
I let it into my house -
I'm in the clutches of spring!

Tragedy has poured down
Like water over fire
Squeezed its ugly face against the window
Looking into the house

I'm losing my mind
Yes I'm losing my mind
I covered my windows with heavy sleep
With cold ice...
