Gepetto wrote:That was a productive double post...

the limit for externally hosted avatars could be greater, after all they take up less space than most names do... look at this very page, the avatars are not covering the entire width of the "poster ID" column. But setting different standards for local and linked must suck, or the programmers would have done it already.

What we really need is the participation of an authority figure to validate this discussion. What's Kalium doing right now?

X2

They should test run 100x100 for a week and if it doesn't work out go back to 80x80

It wouldn't hurt to try ^^

It's a thought. I'll need more practice before I can reach your level of cretinism, but I suppose we all have to start somewhere.

godix wrote:The authority figures have always said 'fuck no' to these types of ideas in the past. We don't need an authority figure to say so again. This thread is just mental masturbation that most likely won't lead to anything being done. Much like the rest of the Site Feedback threads actually.

If it keeps us away from "Hosatchel fucked my parrot" and "buy my penis medicine" threads, I can live with it. Plus, threrads like this make people feel useful, not to mention the fact that we can post stupid pix. Speaking of which,

Now, back to the subject, we need Kalium to come in here and act polite in telling whatshisname that this has been discussed before, when actually he's thinking more on the lines of "if I ever see you alone in a dark alley you won't know your left eye from a fish hook". He'll post, then post again (this time threatening to lock) and finally another mod will lock. It's an interesting pattern, really. I' bug him about it but I'm too lazy.

moonie211 wrote:It wouldn't hurt to try ^^

No, but the programmers are lazy. Especially now that they're messing with this Google Apples thing or whatever they call it, it isn't realistic to expect something in those lines anytime soon.

btw Godix wtf is that dog doing on your avatar?

theres no need for larger avatars.

just look at mine. completely visible a 53x53.
serves it's purpose to make people forget my username and recognize me only by my avatar. then when i someday change it, they all say "who the fuck are you, noob?".
exactly as planned.

I'm curious as to why it needs to be Kalium? Does Downwithpants opinion, who is a mod, not answer the question on the subject?

except that it says you joined in 2004. I, for one, have associated you with that ugly "gay owl MEP" banner on your sig. The avatar of Minion means nothing to me.

Yes, but Kalium is more fun because you can almost feel him writhing with anger as he types. Or, he really doesn't give a fuck. Actually, I just mentioned him because his name popped up first into my empty skull. I couldn't care less if it were Downwithpants, paizuri or Phade himself. Or even the guy with "Administrator of Stuff" under his name and an avatar with a hat. They're all effective.

Wonder why he got dragged into this. Why?

godix's statement of the position the administration has taken on these matters in the past is correct. Thread locked for A) degenerating, B) being pointless, C) godix, D) Minion, E) dragging me into it for no good reason. Pick any number of the above.

Update: Avatars can now be up to 100x100 pixels. Those hosted by the site can be up to 16KB. Those hosted offsite may be a bit bigger in filesize, but within reason. (No feature-length animated GIFs please)

Out of curiosity, does this mean that nobody cares about the whole "spare the dial-up users" argument anymore? I remember that being one of the big ones against bigger avatars in the past.

Wow. I didn't think that would happen. You caught me completely off guard.

There was some... "negotiation" over the filesize.

Indeed.

and I still feel guilty about not noticing I had my avatar at 100x100 for ages. Guess I don't need two versions of my avatar loaded onto photobucket now.
