help with vegas 6

Hi. I have recently bought vegas 6.0 (expensive >.<) and im right now a noob at this im still at the Windows movie maker stage. anways, i get my files in .avi format in to my media manager and no matter what i do it wont go into the timeline. my friend mentioned something in the properties it wold show a res. and the stream wouldn't be found something like that. so

if thats the problem can someone help me and give me a solution?

Make sure you footage isn't encoded in xvid or divx.

You can convert the avi files using virtual dub.
you will need a codec like Huffy to edit with

i found it but when i import the file it sais it needs a vid for windows codec or something I DID INSTALL HUFFY

You probally need to install the xvid or divx codec. Im not sure what codec your source files were originally encoded with

oh and it sais i need a direct stream wich is why i think(going back to the beginning)it dosent work in vegas o.O

It says that in virtual dub because if you don't have the codec for the video, you can only use the Direct Stream Copy option.

ok i figured out this stuff it is compressing fine BUT, well... its coming out to about 15GB >.<

The huffy codec makes video clips alot larger than other codec since its an uncompressed format ^_^

Are you encoding a whole episode or just clips cut from it?

wole episodes. isnt there some kind of compressed format that works on vegas?

I recommend you Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides, since you seem to be relatively new to making AMVs. It's a big help. A bit long, but very useful.

find the scenes you want and use these keys to mark the beginning and the end of the clips you want to make...

also use Lagarith, it will make the video size smaller, AND remove sound by going to stream --> stream list ---> disable stream

I'm a Vegas user... 99.9% of the time Vegas will like Lagarith more than huffy anyways...
