It's not that Windows Movie Maker is bad, it's just a very popular editing program because of it's restrictions, so to speak.

I recommend sticking with it to get into editing. It's a nice starter, because of it's simplicity and the fact that it doesn't overload you with features.

So yeah, try it out and have fun.

well, for open source programs...check out this thread

other programs that people find "good" include Sony Vegas, Ulead movie studio, Vegas Movie edit, Adobe premiere (premiere pro and elements too)

but Windows movie maker is probably the easiest program to use, if you want a different program and are willing to put some work (and possibly money) into it, look through the open source software or buy Magix or Vegas

Lots of great videos have been done with windows movie maker. Just try it and see if it works for you; just because you spend a lot of money on an editing program doesn't mean you're going to magically be better.

Around here, it seems that premiere, and vegas are the favored programs, but that's just because we're all pretentious bastards. You can also try Magix, Ulead, or a whole host of others. Check the software sticky at the top of the video software section. Try some demos.

Im weird and actually found premiere to be easier to work with than movie maker ^^
It took me only a couple of days to get the hang of it.
Even after all this time I still can't do squat on movie maker ^_^;
