The constituate images are 1/4 normal size already. I'm importing detailed photomosaics.

Well, the 2nd stick of RAM i ended up getting was also DOA (yes, i'm sure it works with my system... even the reviews on the product through newegg contained no less than 15 people claiming it worked with the same exact Dell system I have) so i decided to check if AE 7.0 would handle the images... turns out i shouldn't have been posting at work, because, as it turns out, the images in question are actually 17212 x 11475... that's with scaling the constituate images down from full sized DVD rip screen caps to 180 pixel wide constituate images. I'm at a loss as to what to do now :?

Cutting the images into parts wouldn't work, because all of the parts would need to be on the same frame, thus the same memory load would be needed, right?

Any suggestions would be great... this thing is driving me insane.

As I think I've suggested before, the only solution in this case is to provide low-resolution proxy images to swap out when you are at a wide view, and swap in the high resolution images when you are at close view.
