Mecha-Mania Project (Interest Gauge)

Postby OropherZero » Mon Sep 11, 2006 10:44 pm

Hey everyone, Clamp-X and I are willing to coordinator a MEP which shows off various mechs in mecha animes. As I'm sure you're well aware of, there are heaps of these shows now, which I think begun with Neon Genesis Evangelion and the early Gundams, now it has pretty much taken part in various other genres such as the mechs in shoujo-ai anime Kannazuki no Miko. The goal of this project would be to have one place to show in a spotlight the efforts of the producers to create detailed mechs, oh and battleships will be allowed to, as long as it's portable in some way like a mech ;) Seriously, wouldn't it be cool to compare and contrast various mechs from different animes (this idea came to me when I was apart of an argument on IRC on which Gundam is the strongest).

So, feedback would be appreciated, and if it does go ahead, the deadline will be around the end of January next year.

What says you? =)

It sounds like an interesting project.
Are you gonna have a set of songs for people to use or do they just pick any song they want?

So.. The idea would be to create a Mech profile short for an mep? While I like the idea, finding a song that will depict a mechanical monstrosity, and depict it well, it would be really hard. I can't really think of any. The only way I could think of getting this to work would be to make a character profile centered around the pilots and their Machines. For instance Shinji's eva unit got stronger as he became more desperate. A song built around that might work some how. Another one is Gundams, they get so filled with rage and anger that they go berserk. A song could be easilly used to that. Um... in IGPX, well that's simple, use a cool race song like "Phenomenon" or something. I think the problem is your not being detailed enough about what you want from people in this MEP. I'm still kinda confused myself.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

I was going to let the editor choose the music source, I was thinking songs should be fast paced just like phenomonon as you said, jpop would also go very well in this project.

Hmm I was going to make it more detailed if it goes ahead but I'll write out more descriptions now.

Okay this project isn't really supposed to be drama focussed such as character profiles of the pilots, i was just thinking of it being action - jammed pack - eye candy of mechas in action rather than the experiences of the characters. Of course you can put in footage of the characters if they are apart of the action scene. I think this notion would have more focus as a 'mecha MEP' rather than say a 'character angst' MEP, what do you think? I'm willing to change my ideas around if people think it'll work better.

Edit: Better yet, lets have a mix of these two ideas, a character profile to go with the action scenes of the mechs. Remember though, this is primarily a mecha project so try not to include drama which is unrelated to the piloting of mech(s). Mech angst is delicious and it adds more depth to the action scenes :D

I want the MEP to include as many mechs as possible, so for example, if two people want to do Gundam Seed/Destiny. One person could focus on Kira's mechs, Strike, Freedom, Strike Freedom, and the other person could focus on Athrun's mechs, Aegis, Justice, Saviour, Infinite Justice etc

If more than one people want to do NGE, one person would focus on Shinji's eva while another person does the various angels or Asuka's eva.

The anime should be of a mecha genre, for example Kannazuki no Miko is shoujo-ai AND mecha so is allowed. magical shopping arcade abenobashi I imagine only parodies mecha animes so please include real mechs not comedy ones (that being said I haven't seen magical shopping arcade abenobashi).

Are you getting an image of what I'm trying to achieve through this project or any parts need more ellaborating? Please post your opinions :D

The idea sounds very promising and I'm sure there'd be a lot of interest. But please do not use only the well-known mecha animes. After all,we'd like to learn more mecha animes from this vid.

And make sure it is full of action and effects. That's the point of the vid!!!

Yeah, i agree with that
Oropher i'm collecting my Fafner dvd off mark tonight, if that's good and "rippable" (FU madman) i might have a go at this... but... i really can't promise anything 'coz i'm v-busy as it is... and there'll be the nightwish mep and the aussie mep and then piyush junja 2... so actually it'll be unlikely i join.. *sigh* damn.

Hehe...Fafner was the first anime to slip into my mind when I saw this thread.

I second the notion for more obscure mech show exposure. For some reason I have liking for mecha shows but I'm not a huge fan of the popular ones like gundam. But as far as interest you can count me in.

JPOP/Techno + Mecha Action = chance for some crazy editing :P I'm up for that.

I love action - jammed pack - eye candy! ^^

When you start this are we gonna be allowed to use more than one anime in a video?
