Looking for the Right Program

Postby SweetNymph » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:34 pm

I want to graduate from Windows Movie Maker, but I'm not sure which program would be right.

Here are the qualities I'm looking for:

Not to complex to understand
Overlay capabilities (two clips at once)
Using only part of the screen in a clip (like having one clip, then being able to add a rectangle containing another clip on that one, if that makes any sense)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pick something.

However, be aware the capabilities mean complexity. If you want power, that's the price.

Can Vegas do that third thing I mentioned?

Well, so long as there are tutorials, I can't live with complexity.

everyone wants a non complex one, some ppl pick up faster than others, u gotta get used to the program, remember that u r leaving kiddie stuff like WMM and r gunna be with the big boys so it will be more difficult to learn
most advanced video programs have more than 1 track
i still dont get this... maybe a screenshot of what it looks like?

Think "picture in picture". Now generalize it.

For the original poster's question:

Just about any multitrack editor these days can be used to do what you want to do. (Heck, Avisynth can do what you want to do.) If you have some other features in mind, that can be used to narrow the list down.

"She" actually.

Cookie cutter SOUNDS right at least. I'll download some trials and see what they can do. Thanks. ^^

u can also do this in premiere, but vegas is easier because the effect is right there. in premiere u have to do it manually

Okay, so I got the trial, but so far, only one of my episodes will import with the video. All the others only show up as audio. What's wrong?

(This place really needs an edit button)

Also, how do I make clips in Vegas?

At a guess you're importing .avi files that are encoded lossy with xvid or divx or whatever. In general these codecs don't work in vegas. Try using virtual dub (found in the amvapp here, along with other handy tips about editing) to convert the files to huffyuv or largarith (lossless codecs).

As far as vegas goes I know nothing but there is this topic here that may help.
