I'm not saying you didn't get the short end here, but rule #7 on the Anime Expo AMV rules, does say you have to be there to get your prize. They should at least give the money back to the sponsor. Do you know for a fact that this has not happened?

To me it seemed like the whole point of this thread was that the company didn't get it's money back, not that he didn't get the prize.

That is correct.

I knew ahead of time that Anime Expo is horrible about sending things out and about communicating with people. But I foolishly expected them to be responsible with their sponsors' money, especially since the sponsor was trying to actively communicate with them.

They're not.

Actually I'd say he's referring to the increasing amount of politics surrounding the AMV Contest at AX, and how given that fewer and fewer notable editors care enough to submit, it may not be worth holding.

by what I read

7. Anime Expo® and its judging methods are final; prizes will be awarded only to those in
attendance at the convention. Any video that is submitted will be entered into the contest. Anime
Expo® will not ship prizes, though proxies may claim the prize for the author with a signed proxy
form. Proxies must present this form to the Anime Music Video Contest Directors before the start
of the general contest. Anime Expo® sponsored Anime Music Video Contest Award Trophies will
be shipped to winners.

they should ship sponsor awards
so by the looks of this they may be in breach of contract with a sponsor, as well as a breach of good faith with their contest

They tried to violate the laws of nature by attempting to interleave an MPEG-2 transport stream into an AVI file, thus triggering a quantum explosion over Anaheim.

If <i>that's</i> all it was, then they're at least two years overdue for it. :P

Sounds to me like a lot of creators are already boycotting AX. I've never entered but I see the messages every year about how AX screws something up with the amv contest. A couple years ago some stated (either in the board or on the ML) how AX was the self proclaimed "Academy Awards" of the AMV community. I remember laughing and thinking that AWA more fit that bill with the pro contest (seeing how the nominations and awards are done by the peers of the industry)

From all the comments I read from the people the general feeling I get from people is that AX is the E3 of anime. More industry less fans.

I'm not up for boycotting AX, if for no other reason than is' the only con I actually go to.

Yeah, and I really don't want to start one of those "lets all boycott this con" things anyway. Its more like the con is driving creators away and by proxy causing thier contest to be boycotted.

I always seem to hear something every year but this year:

- DQ'ing the video 'The Wedding Rings' because they considered it a 'fan story' and not a music video.
- As a result they want to implement a parody category next year... Will there be enough entries? Parodies don't have to be funny, is it fair to stick a serious trailer up against a comedic commercial?
- The VG3 project was not shown because they tried to make Castor Troy get permission for each source in the video...
- Video coding methods Trythil mentioned above.
- Jbone's prize money not going back to sponsor

And...

I was disqualified from the contest just now..... It seems there was a cease and disist order on using Evanescence songs for the AMV's. They specifically said that it was for animemusicvideos.org As a first time AMV creator i did not know this and thought everything would be alright. I did not know that this contest had anything to do even with Animemusicvideos.org. I really feel it would have been nice if they listed what bands/songs/AMVs could not be used in the contest......... I and my co-creator put a lot of hard hard hard work into this video over the span of YEARS. It's devistating that it will not even have the chance to be judged. It also really sucks because i got confirmation E-mail #1 saying they got my stuff. If they would've told me then it would have been a shock but the DAY BEFORE.
