Yes, you rent movies for a set fee each month. Rip and copy what you need for archival purposes. and send it back for a new one. It's highly illegal, but not frowned upon here for some reason.

It's impossible to catch someone unless they admit it... or unless companies start watermarking rental releases. At the very least, it's better than buying bootlegs (which funds all kinds of unsavoury things) or downloading source for nothing.

With most downloaded source you're basically doing the same thing as using a tivo to save shows and skipping past the commercials, by copying rentals you're not "arguibly" breaking the law (it's never gone to trial for an official ruling, has it?), you're explicitly doing so.

How is it any more illegal than ripping and copying a DVD you bought yourself?

because you can at least claim ownership ... that it was a backup copy for personal use.

If you're circumventing copyright protection systems to make that backup, you're still guilty.

Fair enough, but it's a far cry from first degree murder, so it actually matters when more than 1 charge is laid on you. In this case you have multiple charges that they actually have charged people with in the past.

And won. Backups for personal use don't lose lawsuits, illegal or not. That's why there's so many software companies that accept American Express for selling CD-Protection-breaking ripping software and they don't get busted.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

I have a newbi question, too. I have made one AMV (haven't mangaged to upload it yet, though) using Windows Movie maker. Then I made the mistake of upgrading it to 2.1 and now it crashes and shuts down about every 5 mins or so! I can not do a thing with it.

So, out of frustration, I'm thinking of buying adobe, and I'm wondering, should I get Adobe Elements or Adobe Premier (or is it Pro? I've forgotten) considering I'm really new to this stuff? I'm leaning towards Elements, since it's WAAAAY cheaper, but I'm not sure if it's the one I need or if I should get the more expensive one?

I tried using Nero Vision, but I can't figure out how to remove the sound from the video, so that all you hear is the music.

Any advice? Suggestions? Tomatos you want to throw.....? :D

Thanks!
