Anime Expo [sort of] steals $100, news at 11

Yeah, the subject line's just to grab attention. But it's basically true.

If you win an award from Anime Expo and aren't present at the time of winning, expect to never receive it.

This year, I was the winner of "Best Technical," which carried a $100 cash prize provided by a sponsor.

The Sponsor contacted me for my name and address, to make sure I'd be able to receive the prize from Anime Expo.

Anime Expo never sent the prize to me.

Anime Expo also refuses to respond to the Sponsor.

So, basically, Anime Expo owes me $100 for an award I won.

At the very least, Anime Expo should return the Sponsor's money, since the money belongs to the Sponsor, and the Sponsor provided it to be a prize for the winner of the category.

I don't usually pay much heed to awards, and I don't care whether or not I win them. I don't care if I get a piece of paper in the mail as acknowledgement.

But, Hells, if someone provides his or her own company's money to Anime Expo for a purpose, it's Anime Expo's responsibility to properly award it.

Otherwise, Sponsors will become incredibly pissed off from seeing Anime Expo keeping their money, rather than rightfully awarding it.

Did you check the contest rules? I'd make sure there isn't anything in there RE: attendance/awarding prizes before you get all uppity.

I'm not getting uppity.

In case you didn't read the whole thing, the Sponsor wanted to make sure the award winner got the Sponsor's fronted money.

Anime Expo isn't even responding to the Sponsor's inquiries about the money.

Heh, well I was thinking of submitting something to them next year. Thanks's for the heads up, i'll keep this blatant misconduct in mind.

I too was considering submitting next year and possibly attending the convention... Hmmm... I may have to rethink that.

Well hopefully things will get sorted out if not this could be troublesome for AX's AMV Contest. What is going on with the big conventions and their amv contest in recent years. It seems the smaller conventions are doing a better job.

Might be a good idea to post on the AX forum.

Sorry, I read the whole thing. Your topic has some loaded words though.

This doesn't surprise me. You should have read all the stuff after the AX where 'the screen was pierced' and all the information that came out then about the convention. Was fascinating to read, and why I tend to avoid AX.

now now... I've been quite busy with getting ready for AWA, so there's no-one to blame but me. I do have them, but they are sitting in a box I shipped back to Atlanta that hasn't been opened since Kawaii-kon.

I'll get them sent out just as soon as I get access to the box. This will probably be after AWA. If you, or any other winnars have questions, I'm right here.

oh and one of the rules for the contest is that you have to be present to accept awards and prizes... well, at least prizes tho i think Koop never got his staff favorite award from 2003.

Sadly it's probably a moot point. It wouldn't surprise me if AX doesn't have an AMV contest next year. Even if they do have a contest how many previous submitting creators will actually submit?
