questions

Postby dowhatnow » Tue Aug 29, 2006 9:57 pm

I get how to convert a .vob file into a usable file such as AVS or a fake AVI, etc., but I'm kind of confused on how to create a clip. Whether it's in VDub or Premiere or whatever, I'm confused on how to do so. Can anyone help me out?

Next, does Premiere come pre-loaded with transition effects or do you have to buy/download them from Adobe?

Also, what's the purpose of After Effects?

Finally, does Photoshop have a practical use in AMV creation?

Thanks.

1. You can do clips in either one. I import the footage into Premiere, drag and drop it into the timeline in Premiere and cut and paste there, but you can also do it in Vdub. But I don't really have any experience with that. But it should have something in the guides with it or someone else can help with that. (Me & VDub aren't really on speaking terms right now. Great program, I just came out of a bad argument with it. lol.)

2. Premiere does in fact come preloaded with effects and transitions and stuff. Basic to mid ones, but good enough to get a pretty decent vid out.

3. After Effects lets you do more advanced effects than Premiere. (But I've never actually worked with it, so I can't answer much in that dept)

4. Yes, it does. Especially if you don't have After Effects and want to do effects that you can't normally do in Premiere or you just want to put some kind of overlay (text, shapes, interesting borders, etc) on the vid. It can also help you with lip syncing. (like covering and fixing unsyncs and lip flap where you're having trouble getting it to look right.)

Hopefully this helps at least a little. If not, hopefully someone more advanced than I can come in a give a better answer. lol. I'm just not always good at describing stuff. :?

To trim footage

double click the footage so it shows up in the preview monitor
the use "In and out" points in premiere pro (buttons looks like "{
","}" in the controls )
Click the footage from the preview monitor and drag into the timeline.

In vdub use the "Mark in and Mark out" buttons to trim the footage.

For the clip making, just open your avs file in virutaldubmod and set the in and out points and just save it as an avi file

premiere does come with effects and transitions, all video editors do. but u could buy some plugins in for it

after effect's purpose is what its name is. its for adding special effects to your video u did in premiere, vegas, etc

photoshop is great for creating credits, lip syncing, single frame masking,

Okay, so how would I go about adding a transition/effect? Hypothetically, of course.
