What is a good free program for ripping DVDs into AVI format?

All at once: BitRipper works fine.

I'd still suggest using a program like DVD Decrypter to rip the .vobs and use VirtualDubMod to turn those into .avis

All at once: BitRipper works fine, but takes forever

(sorry if this double posts, I hit the stop button before it sent though I think.)

DGIndex for making indexes of the VOBs, VirtualDubMod and AVISynth for opening the indexes. All the Anime DVDs I've tried so far in my computer haven't even required DVD Decrypter to work properly, so I'd guess you'd be able to get away with just indexing them.

Saves HD space when you don't have to copy the VOB files to your drive, too. ^-^
