Crossover Project (interest gauge)

Postby dj_ultima_the_great » Fri Aug 04, 2006 3:35 pm

First things first...

I have never been a part of a multi-editor project. Therefore, I don't know much about heading one. If there is interest in this idea, someone else will have to take over.

However, when I got this idea, I couldn't get it out of my head. So, I thought I would just throw it out there and see if anyone else thinks it's a good idea. Whether or not you do like it, can you please post your honest opinion?

The Concept
A massive crossover project, where each anime leads into the next with every section. I'll give you an example...

1st track: editor uses Sakura (from Card Captor Sakura) in Chobits. Sakura eventually meets Hideki, and...
2nd track: Hideki enters the world of Elfen Lied and eventually meets Nyuu, and...
3rd track: Nyuu enters the world of Fruits Basket and eventually meets Kyou, and...

...you get the gist. It would have to be a very well-planned project, because it requires the next editor to have access to the second anime of the previous editor.

It can be confusing at first, but I think it could be fun if it's done right. I don't think that each track necessarily has to be very long, either. I was thinking of using a single song, but I don't know what. Suggestions would be appreciated.

If anyone thinks that this would be an interesting idea (or if you've heard of it being done before), please post. Again, I cannot head this project if it does take off. I simply don't have the technical knowledge yet.

Thanks for reading.

- Jen

EDIT: upon later thought, something occurred to me that I think is pretty obvious, but I should mention it anyway. Knowing how to mask and/or rotoscope is almost a must with this project.

Indeed the concept is interesting. I'll think about joining since I still have to finish my solo vid and 2 other MEPs. ^^;

this would be incredibly hard, like, im not even joking, it would almost be impossible without some seriously awesome people and a very good project head, the idea is really interesting though

Sounds like an awesome idea, like if it was all one big crossover story. That would require a heck of a lot of planning and organization, though, and like was mentioned before, also some very skilled editors. I wouldn't be able to make anything, but I'd love to see it done, since I love crossover vids and I think there need to be more. :)

Well, I don't have skills, but I've been masking alot of frames lately....but I'm super slow at doing it O.o
One problem would be that you would have to specify how to correctly rotoscope and stuff, so that when two people have tracks in a row, they don't possibly have varying pixels or cut offs etc.
But, Definetely a sweet macho libre idea......
I'm gonna test out how well my masking works when I edit it correctly and put it to motion....O.o

Oh, and would it be one song? Or a bunch of songs? Or maybe just their theme songs XD....I can see it now.......Rurouni Kenshin kicking butt to the Hamtaro theme song..... :D

That would kick ass!

This is far out of my skill range, but it sounds intriguing. I'd love to see this thing happen.

Another problem would be that things may take a while because you'd have to wait for say a previous track to finish in order to start your own, leading off from the last frame of the other person's track. Just maybe...... Or may be not...
Maybe the transition could be like moving from panel to panel......for example, someone walks into another manga panel....or say Kenshin hits Hamtaro into the Evangelion panel.....

This would be even sweeter if in the vid:
A. someone from one series falls in love with another person in a other series, but has to leave
B. Someone kills/fights someone from another series, and only escapes when finding the next anime series person
C. Hello Kitty meets Bleach

I don't think this would work unless it's similar to Wizard of Osaka where the characters actually interact throughout the whole AMV and have one common goal. It would be a random clump of confusion with every editor trying to mask to some played-out thought on the spot idea. There wouldn't be a definant story.
