A more user friendly video editor?

Postby PHIFEDOG25 » Tue Jul 25, 2006 2:02 am

I am currently on the hunt for a more intuitive or user friendly video editor. What i'm looking for specifically is a program that can run on windows xp, can easily make very precise clips from video files, and lastly something that can be bought in a store(although that last one is not a deal breaker-i'd be happy to order one or download one) I don't need an audio editor or an effects editor-just something that is not going to have me spending half the day trying to get the presice second of the clip cut.

Sorry to break it to you, but WMM is the only software that makes clips for you. Real editors make their own clips. :? Refer to the software stickies or the 101 other threads that people have created instead of reading the software stickies for details on the vast majority of programs out there.

Actually, most consumer-grade versions of the major editing software will do the "auto clip generation" for you. I'm not sure if Magix can do it because I've never bothered to look for the feature since I'd never use it. *goes to check the box. It does - "Scene recognition - Automatically cuts videos into individual segments". I know Vegas Movie Studio (the crippled version of Vegas 6) can do it. And I'm fairly sure the full version can do it also.

If all you want is the ability to cut video with frame acuraccy on the timeline (which WMM cannot do) then any other program will fit the bill.

AVS media editor is a good program, it's basically WMM's design with more advanced features. And yes, it makes clips. The only reason I don't use it is because my computer's RAM can't handle it. :(

Real editors can make a good AMV, regardless of the program.

"Scene recognition" usually refers to breaking up captured DV (camcorder, etc.) streams based on embedded time codes. This happens during the capture, not after the file is stored.

Vegas - both versions - will do this, as will other programs. But unless it was added to v6, Vegas will not break up video clips by scene changes.

You might double check that with Magix, too. Breaking up by time codes is easy compared to detecting scene changes.

I've mentioned Scenalyzer before, but I'm not recommending it for AMVs. It's made for camcorder/film work.

WMM's clips are a pain to work with, as you can't extend the clip beyond its original boundaries. So if you want to fade from one clip to another and the scene recognition cut off the first clip too early... tough.

Just to confirm that Magix has such a feature, I tried it out on a M2V file and a Xvid AVI file I had handy. It does work, although the Xvid gave the usual "B frame decoder lag" error screen. This is with Magix MEP10, btw.

Not if you figure it out, and for the clip extension, you CAN merge the clips before you add them.

Magix works by scene analysis. It's very useful, to say the least.

I don't need to figure it out. :) *plays around some more* Oh yeah, Ctrl-M, forgot you could do that.
