Premiere issues: 23.976/24 fps, wrong in/out points, flashes

Postby Anoel » Mon Jul 24, 2006 6:12 pm

Awhile ago I made the mistake of putting Assume 23.976 on my source using avisynth and editing for a minute with a song in Adobe Premiere 6.5. Now I am trying to finish the video and changed it to process it at 24 fps. I'm not sure what the effect of that exactly would be but now I keep experiencing problems with the original footage showing different frames before or after what I have. When I try to in/out point in the source monitor and put it on the timeline, I get wrong source on the timeline that ignores where i set the in point and puts it a in more forward spot. Also, while playing it, I see flashes of the end points of the clips.

I am getting extremely frustrated and would appreciate on any help at all on how to recover what I have already. It's hard to explain the problem exactly so if you need any clarification, ask away.

Everything MUST match from the get go. If you've edited in 29.97, but then try to change it to 24, and your source is 23.976, then you'll get exactly these issues, and there's not much way to fix it. You may have screwed up your project entirely.

i dont quite understand - did you change the fps after you had finished the project or did you change it half way through the project.

Doesn't matter. Either can have drastic effects and ruin a project and cause the orphans that Anoel is talking about.

I had these same issues with my ICI3 entry, and it took hours to fix.

You'd probably be better off re-editing that portion you had at 23.976 with 24 fps footage and making sure that your project settings are 24 fps also.

Having the fps of the footage and the project different and different fps for some of the footage is bound to create the problems you are experiencing.

Yeah I redid the whole thing, took forever but it works now. But now when I export it, its kind of blocky and pixelated. Anyone know what the problem might be?
