File Types in Premiere

Postby ravenwolf_zero » Sun Jul 23, 2006 12:43 am

Whenever I try to import my video to Premiere Pro 7.0, it say that the file type is unsupported or the file is damaged. The type isn't unsupported, because I've been trying mpg's and wmv's, and other videos with those types have worked, and they're not damaged, because when I try to play them normally, they work. My best guess is that there's something wrong with the encoding, but I don't know if that's it or if it it, how to make it work. The original files are flv's and avi's (which, when I try to use by themselves, say there's something wrong with the compression), and I've been trying to convert them all over the place using Riva FLV Encoder 2.0 to try to make them work. Basically, I need to a way to convert my files into something that'll work in Premiere. Something free would be nice. ^^ Can anyone please help?

Oops, I messed up. The videos I have are wmv's and avi's, not mpeg's. I've tried converting them to mpeg's using Riva, but it doesn't work.

First off, I recommend against using downloaded footage, especially fansubs, in AMV making. If it is available on DVD, use that instead since the quality will be better and the guides available here are generally written with using DVDs in mind.

For XVID/DIVX AVI files, you have a couple of options:
1 - using AviSynth and VirtualDub/Mod, convert them into either Uncompressed RGB, Huffyuv, or Lagarith AVI (use DirectShowSource()). http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... meth1.html
2 - using AviSynth, frameserve the video directly into Premiere (import the AVS file). http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... ocId295338

For WMV files, you can do the same things as XVID/DIVX AVI files and one other option:
3 - drop it into Windows Movie Maker 2 and convert them into DV AVI. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... xport.html Whether you continue to convert the files to Huffyuv (or other lossless AVI) as in the guide is your choice; Premiere will load DV AVI files.
