This topic was split from One Reason People Are Stupid which was started by Dark_Falz. Then Dark_Falz makes this post:
Dark_Falz wrote:The best way I have EVER heard rap described is in a "The Red Green Book". Red Green describes rap as: "pointing different combinations of your fingers at a camera and chanting dirty limericks to a metronome."

Now that is Irony!

I wasn't saying I don't think rap is music. I just don't like it! I KNOW it's music, and fully support the fact that it is, I just don't like it. I HATE it when people take what I say the wrong way...

How are we supposed to take that comment? You basically just fully supported a comment that said, simply, that rap is about the way you look and act. Even if it's said jokingly, the belief is there, and that belief excludes musical integrity.

I think what my opponent intended to say is that the deficit is creating a widening gap between the upper and lower classes, going so far as to affect the fiscal crisis already deepening in Medicare, Social Security, and federal interest rates. The only reasonable solution is to put a higher tax burden on the upper class, lest the whole system fail to uphold the working class that provides the upper class its base labor. We've reached the point where drastic action must be taken to either salvage these faltering and aging social programs, or create a new and more effective means of ensuring the middle class can pay for and take care of its medical and retirement needs. More guided emphasis should also be placed on 401k and mutual funds to ensure that people are taking responsibility for their own needs, and must realize that as the population grows, social security investments will inevitably fall prey to inflation and a greater number of people drawing on their benefits.

Oh yeah, rap sucks.

2 come to mind, but they're sub-generes. Death Metal and Progressive Metal.

But thats only because they suck. :P

All I was saying was that I don't like rap IN GENERAL. I wasn't making any sort of acusations or saying it's this or that. I'll be straight forword with this one: I HATE RAP IN GENERAL! Anyone who can take that as a general comment is an idiot. HOWEVER! I HAVE found one rap song I can agree with, "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizket. The only reason I've EVER liked this song is because I've actually felt that way before. I, personally, have nothing against rap artist. Now, anyone who feels the need to call me racist or nazi or something can go F*** themselves! Although, feel free to call me on spelling and grammer.

I never come into this forum. Now i know why...

Anyways, i've seen it best expressed on a bumper sticker:

"Rap is to Music what Grafitti is to Art"

It makes plenty of sence too; hell, there are a lot of people that seem to think of grafitti as an artform. Both are mostly urban... there's a lot further you can go with that line of reasoning, i'll just leave you all to that. :)

And yet grafitti is considered art by many institutions.

And so isn't shit smeared on a wall or paint splatters. That's what happens when everyone's opinion is thought of as valid for no more reason that (s)he had it. :?
