damn SMTP...

Postby Akashio » Fri Oct 04, 2002 3:55 pm

I'm installing PHP, right? And during the install, it asks me for the SMTP Server and the corresponding email address. I dont get it. What's a SMTP address and how do i find out what mine is. I have hosting and a FTP address and everything, but I don't know what to fill in there. Please help me

PHP asks you for the address of an SMTP server (read: sendmail, exim, postfix, etc) and an email address so that it knows where to send data and what relay to use when, say, the mail() function is used. If you don't know what yours is, then you probably don't want PHP to use one, and so therefore you should just use the default "localhost" and just never use mail().

But what the heck does this have to do with video software?
