A quick question about Sakura Con!

Postby this_is_the_real_me17 » Sat Mar 11, 2006 3:25 am

Yay! It's my first ever anime convention! Luckily, the conventions nearby so I don't have to worry about transportation. Being a n00b at anime conventions, I actually had a few questions to ask people if that's ok?

First, I read about admission on the Sakura con main website but it's a little bit fuzzy. Do I pay 60 dollars to get in, pay 35 dollars for a full day, or do I absolutely have to purchase a membership to get in?

Next, I didn't have time to put together a costume... :( Would throwing on the usual jeans and t-shirt be acceptable or is it a must to wear costumes?

Then there's a quick question about AMV's...is it too late to send in videos for the convention to play? I really am clueless as to how you send them in.

Well, that's it for now! I'll post back if there's anymore questions I can think of.

Thank You!

Congrats on going to your first convention.

I don't know anything about SakuraCon, but the general rules are usually the same for all. I think the $60 is a pass for the entire weekend, if it is 3-days or what not. $35 will probably get you in to the con for only 1 full day only.

Jeans and T-Shirt will be fine. Don't worry, you will see a lot of people not dressed up either. There are probably more people that are not cosplaying that there are cosplaying. It just people only take pictures of cosplayers and not the norms, that's why it seems like everyone dresses up.

Most conventions have a deadline for AMV submissions, along with guidelines. It just depends on the con when that deadline is. I know for Nan Desu Kan, the deadline is ususally a month prior to the actual convention. They ususally provide an address on their website to mail video or DVD submissions of your AMV. They need to pre-screen your AMV to make sure it follows their content rules, as well as determine the quality of video, and the chance of it being a favorable video.

Anyways, good luck and have fun at your first con.

thank you for answering! at least i feel less stressed. ^_^ well, now i have one last question.

I plan on arriving at the Sakura con as Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket if I have the time to throw together a costume. But Sakura Con is in at least 2 weeks...from anyone who's worn a costume before, do you have any tips how to piece together a costume? I'm not much of a tailor as I mentioned before. Would purchasing a pre-made costume make things easier?

Thank you again!
