Screen Cleaning?

Postby X-Marked Maikeru » Wed Mar 01, 2006 9:59 am

Hello,

I'm sorry, but this is the best place that I can think of to ask this question... But I just got a new Sager Notebook with a 17" Widescreen LCD and I was wonder any tips on how to clean the screen... heh it rippled when I touched it like a plasma screen. So I am afraid of how to keep this thing clean without damaging my monitor. Cost a lot... I dont want to hurt it at all.

But any help will be of much assistance, and thank you.

Dell wrote:# To clean your antistatic screen, lightly dampen a soft, clean cloth with water. If possible, use a special screen-cleaning tissue or solution suitable for the antistatic coating. Do not use benzene, thinner, ammonia, abrasive cleaners, or compressed air.
# Use a lightly-dampened, warm cloth to clean the plastics. Avoid using detergent of any kind as some detergents leave a milky film on the plastics.

Some users comment...

The first step, as always: don't let it get dirty. Less touching = fewer problems.

My wife got one of those kits for cleaning Laptop LCD monitors, and it works like a charm. I highly recommend it. Came with a little squirt bottle of solution (isopropyl alchohol), a gizmo with a soft brush on one side and a wiping cloth on the other, and some spare cloths. Only cost around $6 or $7, and is easy to use. I don't know why I suddenly feel like a salesman, but I think it's worth a few bucks to take proper care of an expensive display.

Plasmas screens dont ripple when you touch them. That behavior is typical of LCD screens except those located behind clear protective plastic or glass like in an iPod or Gameboy. I don't understand why everyone has to touch these screens, the LCDs at my workplace all have some fingerprints on them and not all from inadvertant touching.

Cleaners made for eyeglasses work very well, they also have cloths for glasses or the microfiber cleaning cloths work well.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Also, the oils on your fingers can quickly ruin the screen.
