Albel Fan Girl wrote:A favorite band of all time...? Hmm, I don't think I can pick A favorite, but I have a few favorites...

Evanescense, My Chemical Romance, and Slipknot to name a few... :)

Amy Lee is the only good part of Evanesence, the rest of the band plays the same four notes the entire song.

My Chemical Romance has the exact same problem, minus the decent singer, plus the shity screamo one.

Slipknot, well... Joey's a hack, and people who spooge over the factt that he can pound on a double bass drum are really annoying. If you want a REAL drummer, listen to some Dream Theater. Mike Portnoy = god. As far as the rest of the band, about all they can do is pound on their instruments repetitively and scream.

Though, on a more positive note, I do agree that it's hard to name JUST ONE band that you consider your favorite. If you look back a couple of pages, you'll see that I've narrowed mine down to three. Blind Guardian, Dream Theater, Pink Floyd.

Amy Lee is horrible; that whole band is horrible, actually. Tarja (ex-Nightwish) was 30x the singer Amy was, even if Tarja is a diva bitch.

MCR can die. Thanks.

Joey is a decent drummer. He never shows it in Slipknot though. His shit on Roadrunner United is good. Portnoy isn't God on drums at all, he's become stale and repetative. Gene Hoglan, Richard Christy, Danny Carey, George Kollias, Derek Roddy, they're all better than Portnoy has been in the last 5-7 years.

You guys seem to be taking my dislike of metal too personaly.

As for opening my mind to investigate these so called bands, I'd like to say that it has nothing to do with my mind being open but more to with the fact that I am just too indifferent towards something that shouldn't be considered music to begin with. In short metal is not worth the time it would take to even read the bands name wich I would listen to. By the way not only did I not read the names of the bands but I won't be listening to any of the verbal vomit they've tossed into the toilet of life.

There you have it.

Plus, there are several things about his logic that bother me, the biggest of which is thinking he can say that something sucks without defending his position at all.

Whoever said this, I just want you to know, you made me laugh for hours.
But why should I explain my opinion? Really? Would it have convinced you of anything you don't think you may already know? Probably not.

However if I could pick two other bands as favorites I'd have to go with;
The White Stripes and The Smashing Pumpkins

If I could pick five I think then I say in addition to the rest;
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Modest Mouse and Tool or Symphony X.

Go listen to Nightwish's Ghost Love Score and tell me there is nothing 'musical' about metal, and that it is 'vomit'. Metal is easily the most diverse genre in the world, and encompasses so much that this blanket concept that it is not even 'musical' is downright bizzare.

Quoted for Truth. If you want to try to say they AREN'T metal, I can pretty quickly quiet you with a single link. They are progressive power metal. Basically, a fusion of my two favorite genres.

All of those bands you just refused to even read the name of lest you soil your perfect mind are also power or progressive metal groups, just like Symphony X. Good going.

Hey guys I can't help it if metal blows. Perhaps you should consider listening to something else if you can't handle the truth. I would suggest starting with the sounds of old women passing gas. I believe it may be the closest thing to what "metal" "sounds" like.

Pink Floyd is a good choice too. I believe they could be one of the best bands ever.

SYMPHONY X IS METAL, YOU DIMWIT.

As far as what YOU'RE probably thinking of as metal (Slipknot, other stuff that's more "mainstream") yeah, I probably agree (might change on a case to case basis, but some do rise to "meh"), but you seriously are just being stupid.

Let me say it ONE MORE TIME.

It's very ironic that somebody who listens to a band called "Garbage" is calling metal crap.

Stop letting MTV dictate what metal is, fuckwit. Slipknot is not metal.

Symphony X, Death, Strapping Young Lad, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Opeth, Nevermore, Katatonia, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Meshuggah, Nile, Cynic, Atheist, Dillenger Escape Plan. I suggest you give some of the bands a listen, you fucking moron. Thank you.

There's a Meshuggah song that's something like 23/18 time signature for the guitars. The drums are following that time signature, except the cymbals which are played in 4/4. That takes talent. It takes talent to tremelo pick at 260bpm in 16th notes, whether your dumbass likes it or not.

Well then if Symphony X is metal I'm disowning them. I'll never listen to them again. Thank you for showing me the error of my ways. I'm currently breaking and destroying all things symphony x in my cd collection. Thank god. I always wondered what bothered me about that band. Now I know. They are a metal band and therefore suck. I'll also have to find a way to dispose of my father's Black Sabbath vinyl albums. Especially if you say they are metal.

And just cause someone has talent doesn't mean their talent isn't put to good use.

Listen to that song if you don't think they are metal. Seriously, I've met some real shitwits on these forums, but you're easily the worst I've ever come across. Symphony X is metal. They say so themselves. Have you ever listened to King of Terrors?
