That extra episode is way too comedic to fit into the original episode timeframe. I mean, it's mostly about Nana and her fitting in the house (and not to mention her detachable limbs has become a source of lots of disturbing humor ).

I suggest you find the manga of it. The Elfen Lied story goes MUCH further than the TV series and not to mention the angst level gets pretty high (especially the last chapter).

Does anyone know the name of the poem or story that Elfen Lied gets it's title from?

According to this:

ANN Trivia wrote:The title of 'Elfen Lied' was probably taken from the German song 'Elfenlied' by Eduard Mörike (1804-1875). The song plays on the similarity between the words for 'elf' and 'eleven', and takes place at eleven o'clock.

Is that what you're looking for?

This series owns. :D

I feel this is the most goriest, and deepest anime I've seen yet. Hell, it made Samurai X look like nothing. Its a real good series, but, its not for everyone; I mean, if you can get thru the 1st ep, the more the merrier. :?

Now, all I need to do is get the 4th DVD, even though I seen all the eps on fansub. :P

A excellent series, while I enjoyed the final episode I felt cheated too. Has the manga been released in the US?

I just finished it, and I understood the ending pretty well.

Maybe it's me being a film student and having watched "Dirty Harry" a few too many times, but here's my take on the finally:

After "Lucy" and Kouta have their conversation, she goes back to confront the army, doing a little "taking care of some unfinished business" thing (thank you, DH). This is, of course, because Kouta, Yuka, Mayu, and Nana would have become involved if she'd allowed it to go on. Most likely, during this, she put up a fight to make her actions seem convincing (thus, the arms coming out), then faked her own death. The loss of the horns and the apparent demise witnessed by several dozen witnesses would allow her to live amongst normal people without much care. She returned later as only "Nyuu," signified by Wanta barking hapilly. The clock starting on its own only helps to verify this for the audience.
