The anime industry has it right. I mean they know amv's are out there and as long as you don't use the english voices over here, that's all they really care about. Because the audio from the anime could be a spoiler to the series. Any amv by the look of the scene can be distorting the anime or telling the anime. Making an anime look better than it actually is too. Really it is free advertisment for the anime industry as long as you don't use the voices of the characters in your videos. But we knew it was going to come down to the music industry. Only if the music industry can see things the way the anime industry does then we may not have this problem. Really if you hear one good song from the band don't you want to check out more and then buy the cd if you like it?

The way I look at it were not the only ones losing out on this but they are as well. They are just shooting themselves in the foot and they are too blind to see it. They are concern about money, money, money. If people are downloading these videos they willn't go buy the cd. They need to think if these people never heard of this band then the cds willn't sell. Because I never even heard of Master Plan (Spirit Never Dies) before coming here to the org or Thousand Foot Krutch (Open Your Soul). And I've checked them out and bought there cds. If more are to follow some of these bands you'll never hear because they are not played on your radio stations where you live.

Anyways that's my statement. It is time to move on and we can still privately exchange the videos that are now gone from the org. Well contact me if you want any of my Creed videos.

This is the way I see it: If the music industry wants to shut down ANYTHING, they should should focus on the sites that have posted their songs illegally, NOT A MUSIC-BASED FORM OF ANIME FANDOM  ! If AMVs are anything, their a free form of POSITIVE PUBLICITY! I've seen AMVs that have made me want to go out and buy every album a band has ever made (of course, I'm broke so...). I only wish the TV industry would create an :D AMV Channel :D . I'd pay for that (well, my dad would but...).

Nor do ~90% of the people who have posted.
People need to actually learn what the laws are.

We do not profit from these videos. If you look at it, it's free publicity for the artist and the animes. They need to get their heads out of their asses.
This may not be a popular opinion, but then I'm not too crazy about some of the copyright laws myself. However, I have to see their side of the argument as well.

It is not the music industry poking its nose in our business but the other way around. Whether you profit or not, the music industry can argue in court (and would easily win) that you are distributing their music without paying proper royalties. Whether you profit from this or not, is irrelevant. Phade is right. There isn't a lot he can do in such a situation. Copyright laws are pretty iron clad.

See it from their side. If you wrote a great book, and you wanted to see it on the NYTimes Bestseller list, you aren't going to appreciate, if someone is handing it out free on the internet affecting YOUR sale numbers. The argument, "but I'm not profiting from this," is NOT going to deter you. You will still feel your intellectual property is being stolen and distributed without your permission (and you would be right)

Now, before you get angry with me, I'm on your side. I think the music industry is just plain greedy in all this. I know that AMV isn't distributing millions of files (as compared to say Napster in its illegal days), nor do I believe for one minute that AMV is any threat to the profits of any artist.

I understand (partially) their beef with file sharing, but only partially. They blame file sharing for why profits are down, but frankly, I think that's bunk. The Music Industry is having the same problem Hollywood has. They are putting out inferior product and the blaming and persectuing the customer for why they aren't buying.

I don't believe that file sharing keeps people from buying music. In fact, I have been exposed to more music in AMVs, than I ever hear on the radio. Subsequently, I want to go out and buy that music.

I first heard Creed in an AMV and was so knocked out by the song, I had to go out and buy the CD. A CD I would not have bought had I not heard the AMV.

So, I am on your side. I think the music industry is taking it out on their own customers for why they are losing sales. The reasons for this are too numerous to list here, but frankly, the country has moved into the 21st Century, but the music industry has not. They don't know how to handle the new technologies, and it would seem they think they can sue them out of existence.

Bottom line though, Phade made the correct decision, and frankly the only decision he could make. I have feared this for a while with the law suits from the music industry--whether or not they would take notice or take any actions on AMV.

I don't think this will be the last artist to make such demands. Once you have been noticed by the greedy and insecure, YOU have been noticed. It is sad. I was looking forward to making a new video. Unfortunately, it would appear another 20th Century Sacred Cow (aka the Music Industry) is going to try to put the brakes on another part of the 21st Century.

Can you imagine what it be like if the UN had actually got their mitts on the internet?

It's their music and they can therefore say they don't want it used in ways such as this if they want to. Bitching about them "sticking their noses in our business" would be like someone walking into your room while you aren't home, getting on your computer without your permission, rearranging files and changing settings, downloading various genres of porn, and deleting various music files that aren't fitting to their personal taste, and then you get home and walk in and see it and say "Hey, I didn't say you could do that...get the fuck off my computer." and they respond with "OMG STFU I'M NOT GAINING ANYTHING FROM IT!!!1".

I get so sick of this stupid, backwards ass logic that people who use others' stuff and redistribute/take it without permission are somehow innocent victims when the people who it actually belongs to in the first place say something about it.
