New Processor Help me choose

Postby Toji Fujawara » Fri Nov 11, 2005 10:09 am

Alright im getting ready to build myself a new computer and i need help choosing the processor. Im tired of my P4 and i want to go with AMD so here are the two i have narrowed it down to.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 1GHz FSB

or

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB

Is it worth an extra $97 for the toledo or should i save and go with the Manchester.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed even if they are (DONT DO AMD STICK WITH INTEL <-----doubtful)

That extra $97 will buy you an extra 512K of L2 cache per core, which is a good thing if you plan to do any sort of work that involves a lot of repetitious calculation from a dataset.

I hope you realize that switching architectures will also require you to buy, at the very least, a new mainboard.
This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 512 character limit.

I would suggest: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1GHz FSB

Cheaper of the 1meg cache types and save some money. Otherwise, I would go with the Toledo if you have the money. I built a 3800 system myself and it screams! :D
