Ever played Telephone Pictionary? krzT and I sure have. And we loved it so much that we decided to put it into AMV form.

Um, now as far as the video itself.

Seriously, where else do you see a video that is largely structured around sentences written by random people? Where else is conceptual continuty stripped down to something more basic, editor-friendly, and fun-oriented as that? In a world of AMVs without pretension, this is the way things ought to work out.

As far as the segments themselves, it's hard to say something other than the fact that they're all as basic and solid as the idea requires. I can clearly distinguish Jasper's and KrzT's segments by style. The first two seem to take care of the milder, subtler side quite well hand in hand, with obvious differences, and then it sort of diverges, with KrzT choosing the more linear and subtler approach to action editing, and Jasper.... Linkin Park and ... drugs?

To be honest my favorite part of the video - and I'm not biased here - is not actually anything in the video itself but the transition between the 2nd and 3rd segments. This is where the "phone" gets really broken and Linkin Park happens. Just when I thought we were getting a nice thematic gradient between videos, bam.

I only hope other people get an inkling of the frightening possibilities of this idea.

Wow, cool! Once I grasped how the game worked (through the site explanation, not the AMV; I'd be lost there), that is. That's a really neat idea. It's really interesting to see a different mode of collaboration than what we already have.

Now I kinda want to play. O_o I'd been bandying about the idea of a small collaborative project. Hmm. Though you guys did it first, of course, credit where it's due.

I definitely agree. It was a lot of fun for the both of us to tackle something that is seemingly so basic, and yet so complicated at the same time. But the end result was interesting and I'm really glad we experimented with it. Hopefully it'll become a more prevalent concept in the future.

That's really exciting!! We were really hoping for this idea to kick off into some kind of MEP, and I'm happy we got you interested enough to consider it. Thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

how bout an open mep? i.e. no final release date. - one editor edits a segment then releases it publically when she's finished, then the next editor in line edits off that, etc. if no editor is signed up, the project is on hold until someone decides to pick it up. ... just a suggestion to keep the project releases fresh, in light of another project i'm thinking about (no pressure...).

the video itself showcased solid editing and interesting pieces across a wide variety of genres. it's more intellectually engaging than your typical amv, because the viewer has to adjust to different styles and ideas rather than have one set of expectations already established at the start of the video. unfortunately i'm not one who enjoys being intellectually engaged...

but yeah, if the project is open, i'd like to participate. though probably as a theme namer if anything because i'm going to be a bit busy for a while.

An open MEP is an interesting idea, but it takes away one of the biggest things about EPYC, and that’s the mystery element. Part of the fun comes from the fact that we don’t know where or what these themes are coming from. It’s more satisfying to put these videos together in the end if nobody knows what it’s like beforehand.

I know it’s probably impossible to keep all the videos from being "leaked" among friends, but I think I’ve got a plan that could keep up the mystery element in a real multi-editor project. It goes something like this:

Recruit two pools of participants: one pool of editors and one pool of theme writers. We'll leave the sign up open throughout the project... just because this is one of those "go with the flow" kind of things.

Start off the chain with a video done by either me or krzT – if we’re coordinating, we’ll need to get our contributions done at the beginning because pitching in segments later on might introduce bias.

Randomly draw somebody from the theme writers pool. Contact that person to ask if he/she has time within the next day or so to watch a short video and give it a new theme. Get two themes from the writer (it’s always a good idea to have an alternative, especially if the editor gets stuck).

Randomly draw somebody from the editors pool. Contact that person to ask if he/she has time within the next two weeks or so to make a 0:20-2:00 minute video using one of the two new themes. If the editor is busy, then try again with another random selection from the pool. Give the editor about two weeks to edit. During these two weeks, beta test the video for the editor if he/she wishes. Request technical fixes if needed. Suggest changes to glaring editing faux pas if needed. Get HQ copy of video from editor.

Randomly draw a new person from the theme writers pool… and so on.

We’ll do this for maybe ten or so cycles. To streamline progress on the project as a whole, we can get the segments ready for final encoding as they come in. In the end, we’ll put everything together and… release!

Well, it’s never that simple, but that’s the gist of it. What do you think?

I'm not sure I understand this 100% but you could have people suggest themes, then assign them a symbol or letter. Whoever wants to participate chooses a letter and then you pm them the theme. That keeps an element of mystery

But every theme (except for the first one) has to follow from one of the videos. You can't pick all the themes in advance.

You could also have a coordinator who isn't editing to put it all together, and pass along the necessary info.

I get it! I finally get it!
At first I was only appling each theme to the AMV it proceded, as a result I didn't get it. But once I applied it to both, and looked for the connections, it all made sence. That was really cool. If you do put together some kinda project out of this, you can count me in.
