Not if you feel you can make do with Windows Movie Maker, Zwei Stein or whatever that other free editor was called, AVISynth, and/or VirtualDub(/Mod). And who knows what else is out there.
Some can and do, and I say more power to 'em.

Alternatively, you could switch to running Linux and learn how to use Cinelerra.

Like kinda creating a mp3 or something from the video? Well if that's what you mean you get movie maker 2 and drag the whole video you like and bump it in the Audio/ music place there, I forget but it's the second one there if you know what I mean? Very lovely.

I forgot that the quality of the song in the video is the same as the sound. Hope that helped. :P

Another free - as in no monetary outlay :P - editing package: Avid Free DV.

" Avid Free DV is feature-streamlined" - which means it's a crippled version of their full-scale software. There are some good video-based tutorials, however.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I browsed the program lists, and didn't find reference to this question:
What could you use to convert .mkv and .ogm files to mpeg or avi? Because what I have is subtitled, and for some reason, VirtualDubMod (version 5.6.10 I think) doesn't like this, and won't open it. I'd just need to convert it so it doesn't have the subs any more, so I can edit it in another program.
This is my first time making a non-subbed AMV (after some subbed ones), so I'm sorry if I'm not very experienced in this field.

Thank you in advance for your help!
