No good. I offered this, and they said I can't do it well enough. If someone with more credibility offered, though, it might work out.

I think people would pay for custom titles in a heartbeat, if you stopped giving them out for free. Ten each, something like that? Easy.

Also, there seems to be two issues, though someone's probably said this already: reducing bandwidth use (1) and raising more money (2). #1 is complicated. #2 is limited because although most high-profile users are college-age with nuclear-powered computers that are this close to achieving sentience, the general download-leeching masses are often in high school and thus short on funds. That's probably not going to change.

...my best thought for 1 is still torrents. Seriously, we know full well what videos are going to cause a giant bandwidth suck. There's just not an elegant way to offload those onto torrenting.

totally out of ideas now.

Derobert - Remember my offer? ($5 for title replacement to eliminate the joke you played on me 2 years ago...)

I wasn't kidding. :!:

Of course, Sarah's trying to double the price now...

So it appears that using ads when downloading has become the idea settled upon? I donated and I'm seeing them. I'm not complaining since they're not pop-ups so I don't mind much, I'm just wondering if I'm supposed to see them.

I had the same problem when they were first implemented. I don't anymore, are you still seeing them?

1.) I haven't read this entire post- but I thought I'd throw my 1 cents in...
2.) Before reading this, keep in mind I may be an idiot

However, I'm an idiot willing to send you a measely dollar. And if I'm here, there are probably others. I'd love to donate. I honestly got as far as trying the other day. But then I start reading all this fine print and so forth, I got confused about differences between pledging and donating... I was concerned about making sure payment successfully reached where it was going.

I don't want to be penalized for "pledging" and not "donating" if it is not properly recorded. I could send by paypal, or by mail, but where does it go from there? How do I know this'll work? I just wanna make sure it gets through from my end to your end properly. Maybe if it were simpler and less intimidating, donating could be easiar. Just my thought for the day.
Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

Yep, I see them every time. At first it was just a banner sized ad, but now there's that accompanied with a larger ad below it.

Hey,

pinky75910: If you use the auto-notification system (the PayPal link on the donation status page), your donation will be recorded automatically whenever it passes through PayPal. We also double-check all PayPal donations by hand every day or so. Donations sent my mail are recorded by me whenever they arrive. The only issue here is if you forget to include your site username with the donation, which means I can't match the donation with the member.

DarkNinja75 / aielI_Ileia: For donators, there is a new option on the "edit my profile" page that toggles ads on and off for you. If you have donated and still see the ads with this option off, please let me know via private message.

I hope this helps.

Phade.

Yep, that fixed it.

Oh, btw, once the code is ready, changing forum titles will be a donator option. Details to be released when the code is ready.

I dunno what the heck this is, but it sounds like a good idea, atleast until paypal gains more credibility

An IPMO is like sending money through mail. The only differance is that if the money gets lost or stolen the Postal Service is responsable for it. They give you your money back or pay the money themselves. Phade (or who ever) waits in his house and the mail man will give him a check with the amount of money you send (just like receiving a package). You just need the money (no credit card needed) you will send and the payment to send the check.

And everybody is happy.

((i havent read the whole thread, just the first and last page))

Well I like the last idea of money ordering. I am assuming you are in america, and I am in Canada, and well...If i sent you a Canadian dollar through the mail i don't think you would be amused (what about a twoonie?).

If you could limit the amount of downloading per day, i know people would pay more. As a fresh graduate from high school, I can tell you its really hard to convince your parents to let you borrow their credit card to pay people on a site so they can waste more of their lives in front of a computer...So if there is a system through the mail that would be better!

But now that I am out of high school, and in college, (and have an allowance, how sad is that) I am willing to donate a bunch to help out (Guilt is a wonderful thing for you guys lol).

Anyway, a (simple) postal payment system is my vote.

You are aware that any Canada Post outlet lets you send money orders in American money, right?

Any suggestions?

I really dont know....lal i know is that the things that are being offered right now dont really appeal to me. If i wanted to know if ive downloaded an amv already all i would have to do is go to my downloads. super search sounds ok but it really isnt an upgrade from regular search. No google ads? well i can live with google ads its no big deal to me. I can see ways around not donating and i can see ways that donating would help. but as a creator i really dont see any reason to donate except that ppl would maybe download more if i did and that the site will stay up.
