Videos easier to watch on tv, a con, or your computer?

Postby Castor Troy » Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:32 pm

Here's something that I've always wanted to ask...

Do you find it easier to watch videos on your tv, a con, or your computer?

I personally find it the easiest at cons since it's usually harder to leave the room and I like seeing things on the big screen. Usually on a computer if a video doesn't hold my attention long enough, I kind of keep looking at the timer and sometimes close the video.

Watching the AWA Pro discs on my tv was alot better than having to watch the videos on my computer since I was able to watch a few discs on my living room tv with surround sound :)

Your thoughts? I know alot of people can't go to cons so I'd like to hear their input on this.

For me, cons are best for comedies and upbeat videos, and for videos of one's own making (it always makes me shiver uncontrollably, but it's nice to get an audience reaction).

The TV was nice for the AWA Pro DVDs, because it handled the interlacing better than my desktop's software DVD player.

I prefer cons for everything, really.

The computer will do, and is the better choice if we're dealing with a disruptive audience. Critical viewing is also difficult in a con setting.

Never watched them on TV, so can't judge

Hmmm, good responses...

Now to add this..

Do you prefere watching your own videos at a con, tv, or computer? :)

For this one, I kind of prefer all 3 since a TV and computer can be done in the privacy of my own home (a computer file is easier to seek with). Watching my videos at a con is great but makes me scared shitless at the same time knowing it's being seen in front of everyone. :x

With as many cons as I've seen my videos in, I ALWAYS get nervous when mine comes up....

After I saw my video at a con...

...you can guess the answer :)

For some odd reason, I LOVE seeing/hearing my videos on things other than my own system. It's almost a different experience that way.

I love seeing them on the big screen at cons because they always look and sound better, but since you can't exactly go "I feel like watching an AMV, better go to a con and hope they are playing the one I'd like to see." Computers are the next best thing.

Never been to a con. I prefer my computer anyway though, because I have complete control and can adjust things, make it as loud or low as I want, and just close it if it's really bad (which is a rarity).

I was not able to see my [second] video for its one instance of con play, due to my absence. :?

I watch my Huffyuvs on my computer with the lights out, and my Sansui amp cranked to ear bleeding levels.

Other peoples videos get the same treatment, only half the volume.

Most definately my computer. I saw my video at a con and I learned why you shouldn't submit something with 30% tranparency, feathered fades, and other things like that. The projector just kills it. The only other time I saw my video at a con my reaction was 'meh' although that was primarily because I practiced self censorship on my submission and didn't like watching a video that felt incomplete to me.

I have a TV made in the 80's. It has a playstation 2 hooked up and that's it. Needless to say viewing these things on my TV wouldn't be the highlight of audio visual entertainment. Plus it's too much hassle burning them to disc.

So computer wins just by default.

I enjoy watching them at Cons the most. That's a big reason I go to them, especially ones that have a nice setup (AnimeBoston, Otakon, etc...). However, I usually plug my laptop to a 50" TV and watch them that way. It's mainly because I can lounge comfortably on the couch.

I don't mind watching them on my desktop though because I have a good quality LCD screen and the speaker setup isn't bad. I just prefer watching them on a bigger screen when possible.

Computer. I like being right there, inches away from the screen, ruining my eyes.

For watching my own vids, definitely at cons. There is such a nice rush that comes with getting immediate crowd feedback on a public showing like that.

For normal vids in general, definitely on my PC because I can have vids running in the background while I'm doing other internet related things. It passes the time well. I enjoy TV watching also but it is a pain to have to burn them to cd/dvd to do it.

I like watching my vids at cons (it's just plain cool to be able to show a vid to hundreds of people at once), but while watching my vids, I tend to be rather critical of myself, complain about how it sounded etc., and I really cringe at parts that I could have done better.
