Why do people [put half the topic inside brackets]?

Postby jbone » Mon Sep 12, 2005 9:08 pm

I've noticed [an odd trend lately]. People keep [putting the subject of a post's topic] inside [brackets] for no [apparent reason].

Why do people [do this]? I just [don't get it].

Perhaps someone [would care to explain the phenomenon] and why [it seems so prevalent on this forum]?
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all the bracketed words inserted by mods? To, you know, clarify ambiguous titles.

Yea, when people aren't able to write a clear and descriptive title, a mod will fix it so that people might actually decide to read the thread.

Who are these [people]?

I'm disappointed in you [jbone]. For a man of your [pretentiously large] stature [and ego] you're lacking [or pretending to be lacking] in the rudimentary writing knowledge [of square-bracket or plain-bracket usage conventions].

At times [like this], I really don't know what to tell you [except "fuck off, man"].

Sorry, I [had to].

I thought everyone knew the mods did that? I don't know if anyone else does them.

What I find amusing is when mods piggyback on someone's post when locking a thread:

[mod i: I'm not a real mod. And my number is an imaginary number. This makes me sad.]
