What is the current method of payment for adds anyways? Does pay-per-click still work (scripts anyone?) or is it pay for addspace (adblock with firefox or some such setup). Either way, revenue could be obtained without actually bothering anyone that much.

well I am a person who only recently donated...

The reasons I did not donate are...
-do not trust Paypal
-do not have a credit card
-saw no benefit to donating

The thing that finally convinced me to donate : being able to see star averages so I could avoid bad videos. I would have donated a lot sooner if I had known that this feature existed.

Google Ads for non-donators sounds like a plan. Most users find the google ads very un-obtrusive, so it could generate some revenue without actually pissing too many people off.

Firefox + adblock = no adds bothering you.

As long as google pays for the ad space and not the actual clicking of adds that is..

I don't mind a capped download speed. I'm pretty used to having my modem flake out on me at times and getting things slower than I should anyways. :(

I have 16 cents in paypal right now. I'll probably donate when I get more money but there's a billion things I wanna buy so you know...

I would donate if...

I had money
I had paypal
I had a credit card/debit card/checking account
I had a job...

I'm really not bothered about google adds or capped downloads or whatever you would implament to make people donate.

I am however bothered that the site is lacking funds to keep such a great thing to keep going, and I would donate if I had the resources to...but I currently do not since ive been donating to cancer and katrina foundations heh ^_^;

Guess ill have to wait till I get a new job in October.

I don't care either. It'd be pretty silly, since half the time the file sits in my AMV folder for a week before I get around to watching it anyway. :P And if it gets watched right away, then I still have time to kill; that's why I'm watching AMVs in the first place. It's not like "whoa, gotta save this car wreck victim's life, WHEN IS THAT AMV GOING TO GET HERE?!"

Would capping speeds slow down the hemorrhage to a useful degree? That's pretty reasonable, if so. Superfast downloading is a convenience, not a necessity. People would whine, but not justifiably.

I was also thinking - it's been a while, but weren't there more restrictions in place when the Donut (or Carrot, way back) was first getting started? I could've sworn there were. Limitations from those days could be resurrected too; we survived back then with them, and we can survive now. (See how painful they were? I don't even remember what they are. Torture, I tell you. )

Do you guys even crack down on your "no downloaded material" rule? I mean, get rid of it if you don't. I've never seen it enforced even when the creator says he's used downloaded footage.

Ok... generate a simple clicking program that loads proxies or spoofed IPs before each click so each one is unique. Run it at a realistic rate for our assumed site traffic load and there you go... a small source of revenue.

I know the admins couldn't accept this, but other interested parties could pull it off...

There's a name for that. It's "wire fraud".

Is it necessary to make a pledge before donating to receive credit? :?:
If I make an annual pledge, it says it wants the money NOW... ^_^

This doesn't feel very user-friendly...
