OT: NEED NON-AMV HELP!!! ASAP!!!

Postby LivItUp » Fri Sep 02, 2005 5:27 am

Hey, guys-
I know this is a bit off-topic, but I can't find any other way to find help for this situation.
I show AMVs and other music videos at DragonCon www.dragoncon.org I've been doing this for the past six years. During the past couple of years, I've had my own timeslot. I was told way before this year's convention that I don't have a slot because of scheduling issues. I said it was okay and that we'd get it going again next year. So, I didn't prepare any material for this year.
Well.... I checked the schedule last night.... Lo and behold! "Music Videos".... FRIDAY NIGHT!
Okay... I'm not asking for much (Okay.... I am) but I'm in dire need of last-minute material!!! Enough for THREE HOURS!!! I'll have some AMVs in storage that I can put out (including fan favorites), but I'm really looking for NON-anime music videos. Sci-fi, fantasy, goth,.... It would be a great help if you guys (and I know you do more that just anime music videos) can direct me to some of your non-AMVs that I can show at DragonCon. Not that there's no need for anime, but Anime Weekend Atlanta is only a few weeks after DragonCon, so anime isn't really pushed that much at DC..... but the merchandise sells like crazy.
I'm hoping to get this track permanently fixed into DC's regular events, so much so that I may hold contests in the coming years. We have an Indi short Film fest, so why not a AMature Music Video fest?
Your help is greatly appreciated, and I thanks in advance for your co-operation.
Have fun, gang.
-Ciao

Live action music videos

Postby RutKiskasca » Fri Sep 02, 2005 5:48 am

I have made a few, and I have several that I didn't make on my HDD. We should link up on chat, and we can discuss what you want. I can probably ftp them to my webserver, or direct transfer them to you. I think I have at least 30-45 minutes of live action video material. Maybe more. Let me know

Dunno if Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is sci-fi enough, but here you go:

live action

You need to get Khameleon808's live action videos. I have them all, and can ftp them to you. If you can get in touch with him, he will surely have more to share with you, since he hosted the "Live in '05" contest recently.

Hey -

Thanks to all those who responded. It was a great help knowing that you guys do great non-AMVs as well.
Unfortunately...... They didn't get shown.
Here's why:

The person scheduled before me was John "Fenn" Hudgens, well known for his "Official" Babylon 5 Music Videos. We met last year, and my show was after his. When I set up the room for the show.... it became aparent after about 45 minutes late that he wasn't showing up. Either he didn't come to the con... or forgot the program was switched to Friday, instead of Saturday.
So, I frantically tried to set up my show. The Shuttle box I used for the past years was unavailable to me since I thought I had no show.... and It was an hour drive away, so I was going to use my laptop instead. While trying to set up the laptop, I had one little problem: I couldn't get the S-Video output to work! After trying for the next half hour, I couldn't get an image on the projector (I later learned that my laptop's video card is very projector-UNfriendly on s-video. It worked fine on a regular TV today). I didn't want to use VGA since it looked tacky up on a screen. Also, VGA looked awful and blurred coming through the projector. And I didn't want people to see the playlist. So, I had to inform the crowd that Hudgens wasn't showing.... and that I couldn't show any videos myself. The room was very VERY disappointed.
But, in working my arse off in camera work for the convention TV (DCTV) feed (which included wrestling! (SGWA/TXW) and Robot Wars) and breaking down the con, I was told by the area director I was under that he will get me a track for next year!
Yes! There will be an AMateur Music Video show next year @DragonCon. It may not be published, but it will be there on schedule!

Again... THANKS to all that helped out! Now comes the planning time for the track. There will be rules to follow for submissions, but that will be posted later... and at another site. And maybe... a competition.
Until then, I have a few AMVs I have to crank out for next year.

-Ciao!

Meh, it's OK. I didn't even make that video I posted anyway. I sure wish I knew who did though..
