Like fansubs don't involve people's work? Digital fansub groups spend huge amounts of time in order to get good quality sources to fansub from. They also pour time into encoding things in the best possible quality to get it to people. Ripping off from digisubs isn't much different than ripping clips off of other videos.

furthermore: YOU DID NOT MAKE THE _SONG_ USED IN YOUR VIDEO. YOU DID NOT GET PERMISSION FROM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR TO USE IT.

Therefore, how and why can you be upset when someone 'bastardizes' (sp) your video? It's not YOURS.

You make some good points... however, I do see one difference. When we take footage from a lisenced company, people know where it came from. If we take something from Evangelion, it says so in our video info page and often it is even written in people's videos that it is from the anime Evangelion. People know that we did not make the series ourselves. Same goes for the music. We specify what song it is and who did the song. If we made the pictures and/or music ourselves, we say so. We don't get permission from the anime or song companies, but we do give them credit.

Usually if someone takes footage from another person's video, the creator of the original video doesn't get any credit. So people will probably think the one who took the footage is the one who took the time to cut and edit the scenes. I believe this is wrong; if someone's hours of work is taken and made into something else, it should be specified that they did not actually create those effects or whatever. If credit was given, I wouldn't mind at all. I would be honored and I say if they're willing to say where they got their footage from, I would just let them do it.

i had this idea of using 5 second footages from some of my favorite AMV's and then turning it into a video.

Of course, i was going to do something like a promotional video like: Flashing the Video Creator's Name and then showing some awesome scene/effect that they did.

And then in the end, I was going to show something like "All clips in this video can be found at www.animemusicvideos.org along with the vid creators names. But i didn't get to it yet. It's still an idea.

So i was going to do that...except that I couldn't contact some of the AMV creator's because they had "gone outta buisiness" or something so i couldn't get their permission.

Anyway, when i get to that idea, expect some emails from me. But it's likely goign to be like in a year or two. So don't worry yet.

@silvermoon - good points, but I figure like it or not, it's going to happen. If someone wants to take credit for my Digi effects, whatever. as far as cuts and sequences, i figure that 1: either they dont have access to the anime, or 2: they do, but are looking for ways to cut time.. which are both fine. hopefully, they can do it themselves, and if not? oh well, I just inadvertantly helped someone.

Wake up people. Perhaps if you step off your high horses and realise that you dont ALWAYS need CREDIT for EVERYTHING you do, you'll realise that this isn't a big deal.

What about stealing your editing?

Like if they took your video, replaced your bumper and titles with their own...
