AWA Iron Chef

Post by Quu » Tue Sep 24, 2002 11:47 am

hum... i posted this to the amv mailing list...

the update is the source footage

the final list is (All DVD rips)
"Secret Ingredient"
Spirited Away (I colour corrected the R2 DVD)
Whisper of the Heart (HK)
Goebreaders (R1)
Five Star Stories (HK)
Panda Go Panda (R1)
Metropolis (R1)

for songs they are uploading music, plus my collection will be on the drive...

this is the email i sent before (I am to lazy and busy to change anything)
---------------------------------
Hello… I have just gotten the Iron chef computers up and running. They are some
sweet machines.
Basically for Iron chef we have two AMD Canopus Raptor RT systems…

Iron Chef Contestants will be between Joe Croasdaile and Hsien Lee….
I am still working on the footage… but the secret ingredient is already picked.
Most of the
footage is captured, and the sponsor is stoked.

And the sponsor is really damn cool. ZPC came onto us almost at the last minute
(when the previous
sponsor bailed), and it ends up being for the better. On his own (I should have
thought of it), he
asked me for a copy of some music videos, so that he could be more familiar
with them and allowing
himself to tailor his panel to fit our needs. That’s damn cool. He also went
out and purchased
some DVDs of anime, and is working on his very own AMV. He has previously
worked with live action
editing, but this is his first time dealing with Anime. So now when his panel
roles around at AWA,
he will know what editing AMVs is like.

One of the iron chef computers will be at his table during the con, with the
secret ingredient
locked… but this will allow people to experience Premiere 6.5 , get product
demos, and all sorts
of stuff. All of the other footage, Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart… plus
more… will be on
there for people to play with.

He will be taking orders for computers at the con (I worked with him to get
some AMV spec.ed out
machines… like having the option for a Hollywood+ card), and will be selling
the two Iron Chef
computers with some sort of deal (it would save him on shipping back). I know
that some people
would love to have a working video editing computer, and a buyer of these can
watch how well they
work.

This is the type of sponsor I’ve been trying to get for Iron Chef for the past
two years. If all I
wanted was two computers, I could do that easily, borrowing cards from industry
reps and building
them myself. ZPC is going the extra mile here, much further than I ever
expected. I have always
wanted someone who would actually support machines, provide feedback, someone
who would actually
take interest in the con. Someone who would be there… offering demos, showing
people how easy it
is to edit. This sponsor is that type of person.

You can find more info for the sponsor and his computers is at:

We don't have to use EVERY source, right? The only requirement is the Secret Ingredient?

The fact that this is now an officially sponsored event scares the bejeesus out of me. I hope I can make their equipment look good :?
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

it has always been an officially sponsered event...

the previous sponers have treated us like shit... almost a "crap I already agreed... lets end them some second hand stuff and hope they leave us alone bit"

this years sponser is taking us and AMVs seriously

and you HAVE to use at least one frame of the secret engredient... in fact... if you wanted to... you could use only the secret for the entire song

the rest of the footage... all those other movies... are put there as a convience for you... you don't have to use them... there are there to give you choices...

One day I'll be in the Iron Chef match...

But until then I'll go back under my rock and work on a vid that's good enough to get into the Pro contest 8)
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.

Nice job to both of you on this event, I stayed the whole time and I must say I'm amazed you both put together such good videos in such a short amount of time. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't watch you do it myself. Joe, the Uber was truely great. Entertaining and lip synched and wonderful. Hsien, dude, you hit the nostalgia button with a fricken mallet.

And I liked the whole "3 simultainious video layers in realtime" thing. Very spiffy.

Yeah, spiffy until we got not one but *TWO* 'Scene Not Rendered' screens during the showing... that was good stuff there. :P

The tech guy didn't realize that I had used some effects that weren't part of the system's real-time capabilities...

You know what we need next year? A 4-way MTT Iron Chef showdown
