It's a combination of transparency, frame-by-frame editing, masking, and more. There's no easy way to do it, you need to manually make a bunch of modifications and then combine thte different pieces together.
"If someone feels the need to 'express' himself or herself with a huge graphical 'singature' that has nothing to do with anything, that person should reevaluate his or her reasons for needing said form of expression, possibly with the help of a licensed mental health practitioner."

I would also recomend getting a copy of Adobe After Effects. It won't shave off a lot of time from your editing but it makes it a little easier. But what JBone said is right. Expect at least a couple hours on each frame of footage if you want it to be good.

1 frame = 2 hours
30 frames = 1 second
60 seconds = 1 minute
3 minutes = 1 video

You're looking at about 180 hours per video you work on if you want this effect to carry throughout the video.

basicly it's very complex and time constraining... and it's is ibky worth the trouble if my amv is good enough for it right becuase not all amv's really need a special effect like it right???

Where do you people get the idea that crazy special effects = good video?

Comon trythil, special effects are fun and you know it ^_^

Who cares if it's a great video as long you you loved making it. It's not the destination it's the journey, right? Besides, you can learn a lot from creating difficult effects, even if the results aren't necessarily pretty.

Well I don't consider what he is asking to be a crazy special effect. Often it can make a video look rather impresive. Thing is that you should only use it when needed and only if you can do it well. now if you mean special effects like a flying bird transition, well then yeah, that's odd and out of place.

I'm getting the idea that I shouldn't use special effects unless I want to and enjoy it right? ok i think from now on I'll just try my best to use them how I want to and not over due anything and/or ask for help becuase it is better when someone can teach/or learn themselves right?(and not ask for help) oh.. and one more thing, say if I did want a special effect, should I just use what I have in Adobe Premiere and not go balistic(don't no if I spelled that right?) with Adobe After Effects and try my best with what I have to use?

No, you should use special effects for their intended purpose, which is to provide additional meaning for an element in your video.

If you are going to do FX, many tools will work fine, so long as you know how to use your tool(s) of choice.

And it's spelled "ballistic".
