AMVs Vs. Anime

Do you ever get the feeling that you are more into AMV's then anime itself?

Of course it's unlikly that anyone here hates anime (could you be that desperate for hosting?) but I'm wondering if anyone else feels like their interest in AMVs has become far greater then their interest in anime.

About the only time I watch anime nowadays is when a extremly artistic or extremly dark (or both ) anime comes out, such as Texhnolyze or Gantz. Even then I'm half just looking for source for a new horror video.

On the other hand I watch AMVs all the time. I put a lot more time, energy, and thought, into the watching creating and culture of AMVs. Also I am much more a part of the AMV comunity then I am a steryotypical anime fan.

Where do you fall? Do you watch more AMV's or anime? What is your focus or what do you identify with?

I enjoy good anime and good AMVs. I'm not a particular fan of japenese culture, but I don't dislike it. I tend to like only the best of the best as far as anime is concerned:

It seems these days I watch a lot of amvs and hardly any anime... I have a bunch of anime dvds I still need to watch. Been pretty busy as of late but things are dying down so I might watch more anime soon...

With a few possible exceptions, AMVs have indeed taken over how I watch anime. This is part of the reason I've been away from AMVs in the last few months - although anime on its' own didn't come back as much as I expected.

For better or worse, although the good old "OMG cool!" reaction to good anime is still there for me, it's been somewhat overshadowed by "OMG footage!" There's some exceptions to that though, which I can sit down and watch without the "editor within" interfering - namely the anime I've already done AMVs to and don't plan to again, and the one anime title I'm actually following (Monster).

The amvs I watch most are the ones that cover the best scenes in a given anime, or my favorite scenes. I usually watch amvs because it takes less time, and I get the parts of the anime I like without having to sit or fastforward through the filler/boring parts. In some cases, I hate the original anime, but did enjoy certain aspects of it - amvs let me appreciate those aspects without having to suffer through the anime as a whole.

I switch back over to watching more anime than vids when I'm 'reintroduced' to something I liked in the past. Getting an anime I used to love and actually watching it again (like seeing it in Japanese for the first time) sparks my interest. Then I'll sit down and watch as much new anime as I can get my hands on, including shows I'd normally avoid watching. This will last for a good spat, then I'll drift back over to watching vids again (usually time constraints - easier to cram what I like into 5 minutes than to find 10+ hours to watch the anime itself).

I'm a casual anime fan. I watch anime like I read books - I get my moments when I'll devour a library. The rest of the time, I'll just reread my favorite pages/chapters for a few minutes of enjoyment here and there.

I'm more into the editing and entertainment portion of this. I like a certain bit of Anime, which tend to be the more well-known series like Trigun or Berserk.

I use AMVs as a way to further my digital video editing and encoding skills. I feel that if I can satisfy:

People who have seen the anime
People who haven't seen the anime
People who don't watch anime in general

then I feel that my editing has achieved its goal. To me it shows that I can understand and appeal to all types of people and would be able to apply that to many other scenarios in the future.

That and its fun ^_^;.

Yea, that's exactly how I would describe myself.

Though I'm also a casual AMV editor, in that same sort of way. With AMV's, I also have periods of inspiration to watch them, where I'll really go all out and watch dozens of them - and then spend weeks watching some favorites every once in a while. Same with editing - I get some sort of inspiration, follow up on it, and it's out of mind. Note that these periods of intense interest rarely correlate directly to my interest in anime. Sometimes I'll only watch anime, and sometimes only edit to it.
And then, of course, the fact that my mind is kind of elsewhere most of the time. AMV and anime were never my main hobby, even (it was at one point near, but still only 2nd. I'd rank it as my 3rd hobby in order of importance right now).

I used to buy Anime titles that were just my favourite and worth collecting, but these days I look for dvds that I think could be used for editing.

I watch most AMV's to if there are any interesting shows that I want to watch. In fact it was because of an AMV that I was introduced to Excel Saga. Sometimes I will get a series just for editing, but normally these come through Netflix so that I don't have to spend a ton of money.
