Two questions concerning VirtualDub

Postby Heero_Yuy84 » Tue Sep 17, 2002 8:57 am

Ok...for the record I DID search to try and find the answer to these, so if I missed it...my bad...but anyways...

I've been working with the latest version on a couple of AMVs...and right now I've hit on two things which I'm trying to figure out but have had no luck:

1. Is it possible to work with more than one video file at once? If so, how?
2. Why won't it let me move a selected segment, when the section is selected the only choices I have are keep or delete...HELP!!!

Thank you for your time

Well, it would help if you told us what program you were using.

Read the subject, Zarxrax. :-D

As for the question, I can't really help, but from your problem it sounds like you'd be better-suited to using something such as Premiere.

Bah, well who reads subjects :P
Anyways, virtualdub is a linear video editor, which means its a royal pain in the butt to make anything on it. Its like trying to make a music video with 2 vcrs. As jbone said, if you want to make a music video you need a non-linear video editor such as Adobe Premiere. Look under the Software section of this site for a whole list of different editing programs.

Can't help you with the latter of the two questions but I know the former you can't have more than one opened from my experience, I could be wrong though, I'm far from unlockingall the features of Virtualdub. The best way about moving if you can't find a way around it (or unless someone has a better idea) is to edit down the scene you need and delete those scenes that precede it until it is in the place you need. It's a really poor method but my brain is fried now so if someone has a better idea go ahead and speak up.

Technically you could make a video with virtualdub but it would probably be very bad.

You have the option of cutting up your source, saving your clips, then using 'append avi segment' stick them all together in chronological order. For audio you could setup "Wave File" and import your sound track. After that, export your movie

A pain...

VDub is meant for hacking down clips, easy conversions and capturing. Not for professional editing.

Thanks for the advice, I've been attempting to use the 30-day trial version of Premiere, but it's been having issues with the video files I've been attempting to edit with it...

You're editing with downloaded DivX files, aren't you?

In a word: Don't.

Yes. I own a Toshiba DVD-ROM drive and it's by0000000tyful.

ASUS makes good ones, as well.

Go to http://www.newegg.com and look for either of these brands.

Well you could use those downloaded clips (quality issues and subtitle issues aside....) you just need to convert them to a format (using virtual dub) that Premiere can digest more readily such as HuffyYuv (I swear by this codec....) You can look up the stuff mentioned on google

But yeah DVD's are a much better way to.

(me huggles my DVD drive)
