alternatefutures wrote:No Kamoc, it doesn't prove his point as the point is that anime fans are in denial about what they are watching. I'm just stating the real definition of a cartoon. Is Saber Marionette J a cartoon? Yes. Is Princess Mononoke a cartoon? No. Is Dexter's Lab a cartoon? Yes. Is Batman? No. Get it?

..actually, no, i don't. half of your examples don't ring any kind of bell in my head, and, if you check hard enough, you'll see that i have a whole lot of fucking bells.. that ring constantly..

Alrght, let's try this... Ghost in the Shell is not a cartoon (serious), but FLCL, Tenchi Muyo and Excel Saga are (funny).

And do you have a gong in there? Cause I swear I'm hearing a gong...

Not too far off. They tend to vary a little from source to source, but Webster's is as good as any.

I liked the rant a lot, but you, h3ll, are acting like a bit of an idiot now.

*shrugs* Oh well. I think people get REALLY touchy when someone tries to tip their sacred cows, that's all. I personally like anime, but I'm pretty secure in my fandom - someone can come up to me and go "ANIME SUX0RZ!!" and I'll just smirk and say "OK, I never asked you to watch it, now did I?" instead of foaming and falling down in a spasmodic fit.

But that's not very common.

So you really can't expect a good reaction when you call for sanity and moderation (not as in message-board moderation; as in "moderation in all things"), because people are too insecure to laugh at the flaws in the things and people they love. Somewhere they are ashamed of being fans of anime, or want to fit in and can't, so they freak out like that. *shrugs* Hopefully once most anime fans are out of HS/college we'll see a bit of sanity.

The rant posted concerns the anime fans who act like snobs towards the people who call anime "cartoons," call pokemon an anime, think every cartoon from America is terrible while every Anime from Japan is great. And I wholeheartedly agree, the "elitist" of the world are snobs and shouldn't be given the time of day.

So what is all the arguing about? Its a nice rant, but why are flames still happening?

Sorry but there seem to be way more shitheaded anime fans than in any other genre/hobby I've seen. I've been to many sports, movie, celebrity, etc boards and I've never seen THAT many elitists/losers/shitheads. To be honest, I've seen more shit headed anime fans on different anime boards than I've seen on all different subject related boards I've been to, combined. Face it, anime just seems to bring out a lot of agressivity from many of you people. It's like it gets to you so much, you somehow feel *proud* to know-all see-all japanese cartoons, to the point where some of you start to eat, sleep, breath japanese. Or maybe it's because the anime community is mostly filled with kids/young teens (thus, creating an immature and not too intelligent group of people). Anyway those were my 2 cents. Tata...
