New Feature: Video info for AVI, OGM, and WMV

Post by derobert » Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:16 am

Video info is now displayed for new videos in AVI, OGM, and WMV format as well as the existing MPEG1/2 support. I did some pretty major changes to members_videoinfo.php as well, so please tell me if anything breaks.

Any other formats you want info for?

as far as i know, there's one MKV video on the site.

Someone the other day talked to me about uploading an MKV/OGM of an AMV they were making because of the music quality for the most part.

Otherwise, this feature will definately save people some disk space and they can calculate it before it even starts the queue.

It seems to have some problems with DivX5.1 format : for example it don't give any information for Shounen bushidou or others vids encoded with this codec :?

The info is calculated when the video is uploaded. So, older videos don't have the info (this may be addressed in the future).

All MPEGs and OGMs have the info. All AVIs on Kero have the info. All WMVs uploaded in the last few days have the info.

However, there is definitely a display issue there...

Good deal :) Suggestion though.

Since it obviously has the ability to tell if its an OGM or not, I think it might be a good idea to have the page automatically insert a link below the download link saying "How to play an OGM video file" since that may become an issue. I mean, right now, it's such a rarely used container/format that it probably isn't that big of a deal, but it's something to consider.

Same goes for MKV's if you ever add those to the video info system.

Or better yet, put a link to the new playback guide.

Or better yet, put a link to the new playback guide under the section that contains the links, for any type of video.

You probably already know this, but now all the member names on video info pages have commas after them - even when there is only one editor.
